SmartCaddie: an ultra mobile PC by PBJ    [ 14-03-2006 13:50 ]

The Japanese company PBJ (PaceBlade Japan) has unveiled its mobile PC in new form-factor UMPC introduced last week. The device will be released to the Japanese market under the name SmartCaddie.

It is powered by Via C7M 1 GHz processor and VIA VN800 chipset. Its touchscreen supports a 800x480 pixel resolution. Measuring 228x146x25.1 mm it weighs 860 g. The SmartCaddie has Windows XP Tablet PC Edition 2005 onboard. Later more details will be available.

I’d remind you that in 2Q we expect a UMPC model by TabletKiosk based on VIA processor, and also models by Founder, Samsung and Asus based on Intel processors.

There appeared photos and more detailed info on a new smartphone M1A by Tatung based on Windows Mobile, the model is exhibited at the CeBIT 2006 show.

The M1A is an update of the M1, introduced at 3GSM Congress in February. The keyboard design has been changed, so it is more comfortable in use. A 1.3-megapixel camera has been replaced by a 2-megapixel one. The LCD has got a QVGA (240x320 pixels) resolution instead of 176x220 pixels, RAM is up to 128 MB. Like the M1 the new smartphone supports GSM quad-band networking and GPRS standard.

I’d remind you that Tatung is an ODM-maker, so the smartphone will be available under different brands. The device is expected in shops in 3Q 2006.

The German company Andres Industries plans to release solid and waterproof versions of handheld computers Fujitsu Siemens Pocket LOOX N520 and C550. In fact, these are the same N520 and C550, but packed in new shells. Unlike standard PDA versions the slots and connectors are protected against moisture with elastic gags. The new versions will be a bit larger and heavier, measuring 121x76x17.5 mm and weighing 200 g.

Besides there will be offered some accessories, including car or motorcycle mount systems and translucent protective flip cover. The company provided several color solutions. The sales are expected late in March. The approximate price makes up ˆ550, i.e. about $660.

At the current CeBIT 2006 exhibition Samsung Electronics has introduced its new entertainment phone SPH-B5200. It is packed in a slider form, at the same time both halves can slide up-and-down and right-and left.

It’s possible to use the device to watch T-DMB programs and play 3D games, with a 3” QVGA 240x320x262K color LCD the process is quite comfortable. There are special buttons for games and a motion sensor. Besides there is a 2-megapixel camera, an MP3 player and Bluetooth interface.
