GSA: 80 cell networks to provide commercial HSDPA services by the end of the year    [ 25-07-2006 18:36 ]

The recent survey held by GSA (Global mobile Suppliers Association) has revealed that already 108 networks in 51 countries launched or plan to launch HSDPA services (High-Speed Downlink Packet Access).

According to the survey, 45 networks has started providing commercial HSDPA-services, a 150% growth over the last 3 months. GSA predicts the number would reach 80 networks by the end of 2006.

In addition to the new MOTOKRZR clamshell and MOTORIZR slider Motorola has also announced the series of products. In particular, it introduced high-speed phones MOTORAZR xx, MOTORAZR maxx and MOTOSLVR L7c. The first two models are made in the RAZR-style and support HSDPA standard (High-Speed Downlink Packet Access), so they can receive data at up to 3.6 Mbps. MOTOSLVR L7c supports EV-DO standard.

MOTORAZR maxx clamshell comes with a 2-megapixel camera (8x digital zoom) and an additional VGA-camera for video telephony, an MP3-player and an expansion slot for microSD cards (up to 2GB). At the front panel are sensor buttons to operate music playback. Its internal LCD has a 2.2” diagonal and supports up to 262K colors. As for the interfaces, there are Bluetooth EDR Class 2 and USB 2.0. The device weighs about 104 g and is 15.2 mm thick.



MOTORAZR xx is a simpler RAZR-style phone. In addition to high-speed and the opportunity to work with stream audio and video services MOTOSLVR L7c supports GPS-services. All 3 new phones are scheduled to be released in 4Q 2006.

There is one more long-awaited new phone by Motorola now officially unveiled – MOTORIZR. This is the slider known under the codename Capri and being much rumored.

MOTORIZR is the first Motorola slider for GSM networks. I’d remind you that the CDMA-version is already released – MOTO Z1 slider. By the way, MOTORIZR has also Z3 index. Like in case with MOTOKRZR the company paid much attention to the material and decoration of the shell.

The slider is equipped with a 2-megapixel camera with special control buttons, during the shooting the LCD can be landscape oriented. Its MP3-player supports MP3, AAC, AAC+ and AAC+ Enhanced formats, and can write and play video. The LCD features a 1.9” diagonal, 176x220 pixel resolution and up to 262K colors.

There is the support of quad-band GSM and EDGE data transfer standard. There is 20 MB of memory onboard. Besides it has an expansion slot for microSD cards (up to 1GB), USB 2.0 interface and Bluetooth (stereo sound transfer). The new slider will become commercially available in the second half of 2006.

Finally it happened! The rumors have come true – Motorola has announced a long-awaited clamshell known under the codename Canary. The official name is MOTOKRZR. There will be two versions GSM (MOTOKRZR K1) and CDMA (MOTOKRZR K1m) released in the second half of 2006.



Both versions are equipped with an MP3-player (MP3, AAC, AAC+) and an expansion slot for microSD cards (up to 1GB). The GSM-version has a 2-megapixel camera (8x digital zoom, video in MPEG4) and supports stereo sound via Bluetooth. The CDMA-version comes with a 1.3-megapixel camera, slightly different (sensor) buttons to operate music, and the support of GPS-services.

MOTOKRZR K1 supports EDGE data transfer standard, measures 103x42x16 mm and weighs some 102 g. MOTOKRZR K1m can work under high-speed data transfer standard EV-DO.
