Philips VP6500 – a new IP video phone    [ 14-12-2006 21:32 ]

The US Federal Communications Commission (FCC) has approved a wireless WiFi phone Philips VP6500. It is equipped with an integrated camera, so you can run a video connection with compatible phones. With the special cable the users of the VP6500 can plug the phone to the TV set and watch the conference on a large screen.

The technical specs of the VP6500:

Neo Products, a newbie in mobile phones world, has developed a lineup of interesting phones. It positions them as the new generation of mobile phones combining attractive design and technology. Neo-phones are expected to be available in shops in March 2007 in Middle and Near East and in April in Europe. According to the photos below, Neo-phones look like concepts of future phones, which came to life at once.

The first phone to be released will be Neo 808i. It features small size, 65x40x13 mm and unusual design with non-standard location of buttons and the display. The device weighs 90 g and has a 1.3-megapixel camera, a player supporting MP3 and MPEG4, Bluetooth and a microSD slot (up to 2 GB).

The company says each phone will carry 128 MB of memory onboard and a 128 MB microSD card in the kit. Neo Products scheduled the lineup of phones with Wi-Fi and 3G for 2Q 2007. Below you can see the images of Neo Flip and Neo Curve, which might be the final products.

In November Skype released a new beta-version of its VoIP-client for Windows – Skype 3.0 Beta. Now the final release has taken place. The new version offers changes in user’s interface and new opportunities.

New functions include Extras and Public Chats. The first one consists of small programs expanding Skype opportunities, for example, it allows playing with friends. Public Chats expands chat creating opportunities.

System requirements list windows 2000 or XP OS, Internet connection (GPRS won’t be able to provide video calls), a speaker and a microphone, CPU from 1 GHz for video calls, 256 MB RAM and a Web-camera. Here you can learn details and download the program.

There emerged additional details on the upcoming smartphone HTC Vox. The model is rumored to have a side sliding QWERTY-keyboard and an ordinary digital one under the display. Now Boy Genius Report site has published images looking like official (HTC has been making images to new products this style) and some info about the device.

The commercial name of the smartphone is supposed to be HTC S710. The specs known at the moment:

In the Internet you can come across a spy photo of a new Sony Ericsson phone. The phone is known under the codename AI and supposed to have the commercial name: Sony Ericsson W880.

Under the preliminary info, the AI is a 3G-phone 9.4 mm thick with a 2-megapixel camera and auto focus, an FM-radio with RDS, Bluetooth and an expansion slot for Memory Stick Micro (M2) cards.
