Samsung to release a HSUPA-phone in 2007    [ 06-12-2006 14:47 ]

Author: Verà Kozlova     Translation by: Rytchkova Anja    Send news to friend  Discuss in forum

Samsung Electronics shows its latest telecoms technologies and products at ITU Telecom World 2006 event taking place in Hong Kong on December 4-8. In particular, it demonstrates mobile wideband technologies of the next generation – Mobile WiMAX and High Speed Uplink Packet Access (HSUPA).

The HSUPA technology is the next step following HSDPA (High Speed Downlink Packet Access). HSDPA is considered to be the 3.5 generation and HSUPA is positioned as the 3.75G. HSUPA will help users to exchange data from the mobile terminal at high speeds.

The company shows new HSUPA equipment and terminals. The technology features 2 Mbps transfer speed from the terminal and 3.6 Mbps download speed to the terminal. Thus, if you want to send 5 MP3-tracks (3 MB each), it will take you about a minute on HSUPA and about 5 minutes on WCDMA.

According to Samsung, it expects to introduce the first commercial HSUPA-phone in Europe in 2007.

Ultra Mobile Broadband: the new name for a data transfer standard    [ 06-12-2006 09:59 ]

Author: Verà Kozlova     Translation by: Rytchkova Anja    Send news to friend  Discuss in forum

CDG (CDMA Development Group) has chosen the name “Ultra Mobile Broadband” (UMB) for advanced technologies and services, which will support CDMA200 1xEV-DO Revision C (Rev. C). The new standard is expected to be published in the beginning of 2Q 2007 and be commercially available worldwide in 2009.

CDMA2000 1xEV-DO Rev.C is a stage in the development of the current high-speed data transfer standard EV-DO. 1x EV-DO Rev.C supports 280 Mbps peak download speed in mobile conditions. CDG believes that UMB will be the real breakthrough in next generation services.

I’d remind you that services based on 1xEV-DO Rev.A are commercially used in Japan and the US. The first commercial products based on Rev.B should appear late in 2007.
