Nokia cuts CDMA business
[ 15-08-2006 11:36 ]
Author: Klimov Oleg Source: ZDNet Asia Translation by:
Nokia’s position on the CDMA-phone market isn’t that strong as on the traditional GSM market, the company laid priority with the more popular technology. Recently Nokia has cut about 500 jobs at its San Diego unit dealing with CDMA-phones.
The employees will be offered a relocation within the company working on GSM projects. Nokia will not stop working with CDMA entirely, but will instead focus its efforts on GSM as the world leading standard. One of the reasons for this solution is tense relations with Qualcomm, which owns CDMA patents, analysts say.

LG L343i: a simple clamshell with i-mode
[ 15-08-2006 10:44 ]
Author: Verà Kozlova Source: EngadgetMobile Translation by:
The i-mode service is provided not only in Japan by NTT DoCoMo, but also in a dozen of countries. LG has prepared a cellphone supporting this service for O2 operator in the UK – the L343i. It won’t exceed your expectations with additional functions and opportunities, however many cellphone users do not need super functionality.
The phone is peculiar for its clamshell form-factor and metallic shell. Other specs are average: a VGA-camera and the lack of an MP3-player and an expansion slot. At the same time there is the support of MP3-files for incoming calls, Bluetooth, JAVA and MMS-messaging. Its LCD has 128x160 pixels.
