Today Nokia has announced its intention to strengthen further its R&D operations in China and expand its R&D center in Chengdu to carry part of mobile networks infrastructure products development for global and local markets.
Nokia Chengdu R&D center, established in August 2005, started as a focused R&D unit for IMS (IP Multimedia Subsystem). In order to have more direct responsiveness to emerging customer needs in this market, Nokia has decided to further expand the Chengdu R&D center scope, engaging in development of systems such as Carrier Grade platform middleware, WAP gateways, Intelligent Packet Core subsystems and increasing multimedia applications development effort. The expansion of Nokia Chengdu R&D center will strengthen company’s positions in China, and develop a better alignment with the Chinese mobile communications market.

Siemens is negotiating to sell its telecoms unit to Motorola, the German newspaper Frankfurter Allgemeine Zeitung reports without reference to sources.
It is also said both companies declined to comment on this info.
The article in the Frankfurter Allgemeine Zeitung focuses the fact that such negotiations might reflect the strategy set last year by CEO of Siemens Klaus Kleinfeld, which implies selling of non-effective company’s assets.
As you remember, Siemens sold its loss-making mobile phone business to BenQ in 2005.
