Samsung released YM-PD1 media player supporting T-DMB    [ 05-04-2006 18:56 ]

Author: Kozlov Alexey     Translation by:    Send news to friend  Discuss in forum

Last year Samsung Electronics introduced its compact media player YM-PD1. Now it has announced the release of the model on the Korean market. Due to an integrated T-DMB receiver the player supports T-DMB service (Terrestrial Digital Multimedia Broadcasting), which is provided in South Korea from last year. It’s possible to record programs. With a TV-out you can see the image on the TV screen.

The YM-PD1 has a 4” LCD. The info is stored on a 30 GB HDD. There is the support of 3D-sound due to DNSe (Digital Natural Sound engine). The price tag for the player is 629 thousand Won, i.e. some $650.

The second new CDMA-phone by Nokia is Nokia 2865/2865i. It is positioned as a low-end model with not that simple functionality. Its LCD features 128x160 pixel resolution and 262K colors. It’s possible to download various content type, including background pictures, themes, games and applications. There is an integrated FM-tuner and a speakerphone. You can set MP3 and AAC melodies for an incoming call.

I’d mark the support of Push-To-Talk technology and Bluetooth interface. The device weighs less than 99 g (3.5 ounces). Its battery provides up to 4 hours of talks and up to 14 days standby. The release of Nokia 2865/2865i is set for the second part of 2006.

Analytics: mobile phone shipments to double by 2012    [ 05-04-2006 11:11 ]

Author: Verà Kozlova     Translation by:    Send news to friend  Discuss in forum

Under the forecast made by Telecom Trends International mobile phone shipments will double during the next 7 years. The shipments will grow from 815.2 million units sold in 2005 to 1694.4 million phones in 2012. The growth rate of shipments to the developing markets of Middle and Near East, Africa, China, Asia-Pacific and Latin America will be higher than double. At the same time the markets with high penetration level of mobile communication (Europe, North America and Japan) will have a slowdown.

The sales growth will be sped up by the demand for multi-function and specialized devices. From the view of shipments volume UMTS will be the fastest developing technology. Next generation networks will lead to the plenty of applications and thus speed up the introduction of new functions to mobile phones. Following the fast growth of applications number the voice communication will become a secondary thing for the buyer of a mobile device.
