Apple Accused Of False Advertising By Australian Authorities    [ 27-03-2012 16:48 ]

Author: Irina Turina   Source: Reuters     Translation by: Paul Smith    Send news to friend  Discuss in forum

Apple has run into some hot water with Australia's consumer authorities over its new iPad. The Australian Competition and Consumer Commission is saying that Apple is using misleading advertising to sell its latest creation and they are set to ask an Australian court to do something about it. The measures the Commission wants taken include an order to make Apple inform consumers of the iPad's actual technical capabilities, rectify any misleading advertising and refund those customers who may have been affected so far.

So what exactly is the problem? In a nutshell 4G. The new iPad can indeed use 4G LTE networks, but there is a slight catch with it because the iPad can only use 4G networks in North America at the moment. In other words no 4G speeds for Australian iPad users. Apple though is advertising the new iPad Down Under as a 4G device even though the 4G features won't actually work.

Windows Phone Devs To Get Help From Microsoft-Nokia Partnership    [ 27-03-2012 16:35 ]

Author: Irina Turina   Source: All Things D     Translation by: Paul Smith    Send news to friend  Discuss in forum

Microsoft and Nokia have teamed up in an effort to get some mojo flowing in the Windows Phone apps department. Considering how much both companies have staked on the platform it only makes good sense. The programe is called AppCampus and will be based at Aalto University in Nokia's homeland of Finland. The program will offer devs support in both design and technology when creating their apps, but there will also be advice given on the business aspects of apps to help devs make some cash from their creations. Keeping in that vein AppCampus will also see devs taking part retaining all the intellectual property rights for their apps. The program isn't confined to Windows Phone by the way, devs looking to create for both Symbian and Series 40 will be able to get onboard too, although predictably Windows Phone will likely remain the chief focus. Funding for the project has come from both companies to the tune of 9 million euros each.

Video: Awesome Face Projection Video (I Think It's Advertising A Phone)    [ 27-03-2012 15:51 ]

Author: Serge Novikov   Source: Samsung     Translation by: Paul Smith    Send news to friend  Discuss in forum

I was trying to come up with some mobile related line of thought to justify posting this video, but the truth is it's just a cool looking video. Ok so it is advertising Samsung's Galaxy Y Duos smartphone, but frankly I could care less about the phone and more about how awesome this looks. The poor model they hired had to sit still for 3 hours apparently whilst all sorts of stuff was projected onto him, but the results are impressive.
