Nokia PureView 808 Not Going Stateside    [ 06-03-2012 20:30 ]

Author: Serge Novikov   Source: Phone Arena     Translation by: Paul Smith    Send news to friend  Discuss in forum

he Nokia PureView 808, the 41 MP behemoth Nokia unveiled at MWC, will not be going on sale in the United States. Nokia has already said that it won't be releasing Symbian handsets Stateside so this isn't really a surprising move in that sense. The PureView technology the handset uses will be making its way to Nokia's Lumia range of Windows Phone handsets of course with one of Nokia's vice presidents stating that the move would come pretty soon. That might be some small consolation for American customers looking to get their hands on a PureView 808. Mind you Verizon, one of America's largest networks, will not be selling any Lumia handsets at all until the Windows Phone update, Apollo, is released, so American customers might still have a bit of a wait on their hands.

Android Browser Becomes World's Most Popular Mobile Browser    [ 06-03-2012 18:30 ]

Author: Serge Novikov   Source: StatCounter     Translation by: Paul Smith    Send news to friend  Discuss in forum

Android's built in broswer is now the world's most popular mobile web browser according to new figures from StatCounter. Last month Android's default browser accounted for 22.67% of the market, which meant that it passed Opera for the first time. Opera was sitting on a 21.7% share by the way. The Android browser had previously claimed fourth place back in March of last year when it passed the BlackBerry browser and had subsequently passed Nokia and Apple too. Apple's browser is a bit of an odd case here though because when comparing the numbers based soelly on smartphones Android is in first place, however, Apple is still ahead with a 25.36% share when the iPod Touch is taken into account. Neither Nokia or RIM are showing any such numbers though with both companies seeing their share continuing to fall; Nokia on 11.24% and RIM way down at 6.53%.

Video: Free Mario/Portal Mashup    [ 06-03-2012 14:55 ]

Author: Irina Turina   Source: Stab Yourself     Translation by: Paul Smith    Send news to friend  Discuss in forum

The word 'epic' is thrown around on the internet far too casually, but this mashup between Super Mario Brothers and Portal is a pretty good reason to use that word. The game is called Mari0 and as mentioned it's a mashup of Nintendo's original Super Mario Brothers and Portal. It was created by developer Maurice Guegan and was built from scratch. There's a 4 player co-ooperative mode and the game follows the format of Super Mario Brothers whilst adding in a portal gun to shoot portal that Mario then travels through. The best part though is that the game is free (and open source) so you really have no excuse to give this a go. It's available for Windows, OS X and Linux.
