Biggest App Stores Agree On New Privacy Policy    [ 23-02-2012 13:30 ]

Privacy has become a big issue where smartphones are concerned. Not only have there been various software bugs related to privacy breaches, apps have come under increasing scrutiny as to what it is they are doing with users' information and indeed what information it is they are using in the first place. Well now the California Attorney General has worked out a deal with the biggest app stores to get a common privacy policy rolled out that would cover all of them. Apple, Google, Microsoft, RIM, HP and Amazon are all onboard and will now require any app that uses a customer's personal information to provide a privacy policy that is displayed in the relevant app store. The agreement also means that these companies will need to provide users with a simpler means of reporting developers who break privacy rules.

Rumours had been circulating for a while that Google was working on a set of Android powered glasses, but now the New York Times is reporting that this is indeed the case and that the glasses may be available sooner than many expected. The device itself would be a pair of wearable glasses with an inbuilt HUD display with 3G or 4G data connectivity and GPS as well as other sensors. The current spate of rumours has itt hat the glasses aren't ready for prime time yet, but the New York Times is citing an anonymous Google tipset as telling them that "... the glasses will go on sale to the public by the end of the year". Price if, as you might expect, sketchy, but the best guess is somewhere in the $500 region.

Galaxy S II Hits The 20 Million Mark    [ 23-02-2012 12:50 ]

Author: Serge Novikov   Source: Samsung Tomorrow     Translation by: Paul Smith    Send news to friend  Discuss in forum

Samsung's Galaxy S II hit the 10 million mark in September of last year and now Samsung are reporting that they have doubled that figure. That means Samsung have sold a whopping 20 million units in less than one year given that launch was back in April of 2011. Notching up 20 million sales in 10 months puts the Galaxy S II ahead of the original Galaxy S according to Samsung, which managed 22 million sales. Samsung may be chasing Apple in terms of brand and image, but they are no slough when it comes to the sales side of things. The run-up to MWC has been pretty quiet on the Samsung front, but assuming there is to be a Galaxy S II it has its work cut out for it.
