Samsung: Apple's iTV Doesn't Worry Us    [ 14-02-2012 18:37 ]

Appl's iTV, if it actually appears this year, will almost certainly become the most talked about product of the year. You would think that with Apple on the rise and a growing level of hype over such a TV that Samsung might be feeling a little worried about its own TV business. Not so according to Chris Moseley, AV product manager at Samsung, who said "We've not seen what they've done but what we can say is that they don't have 10,000 people in R&D in the vision category. They don't have the best scaling engine in the world and they don't have world renowned picture quality that has been awarded more than anyone else".

Moseley took a swipe at the rumoured integration of Siri into iTV by saying that how smart a TV was was a 'secondary consideration'. He put the emphasis upon picture quality and stressed that Samsung would maintain a lead in that field for the foreseeable future. This Moseley said, meant that whatever Apple were cooking up wouldn't be a 'great concern'.

Whilst Samsung does indeed have a lot to be proud of in the TV sphere the situation feels all too reminiscent of Nokia's attitude towards the iPhone back in 2007. Back then Nokia scoffed about Apple's fledgling smartphone and essentially cast it as something of a novelty. Five years on and Apple is the world's most valuable company with the world's most sought after smartphone. Could history repeat itself for Apple with the an iTV? It wouldn't be the first time Apple has waltzed in and distrupted a market and Mr Moseley's words might turn out to look more like bravado than rational analysis.

HTC To Be PlayStation Certified    [ 14-02-2012 18:28 ]

Author: Ivanov Konstantin   Source: Pocket-lint     Translation by: Paul Smith    Send news to friend  Discuss in forum

Pocket-lint are reporting that HTC are apparently on course to be one of the first companies, apart from Sony itself, to be PlayStation certified for mobile devices. An announcement to this effect is expected later in the year, perhaps at MWC. Announcing the PlayStation certification system a year ago Sony said "It expands the PlayStation experience beyond the PSP border. It is the first cross-platform endeavour".

Obviously PlayStation certification would be a boost for HTC. Gaming on smartphones is more and more popular and with a brand like PlayStation HTC would have a march on rivals like Apple and Samsung. Of course nothing is official yet so HTC's response to this news was to say that they didn't "... comment on rumours or speculation".
