Video: PureView Ad Shot Using Just A PureView    [ 20-04-2012 18:08 ]

Author: Serge Novikov   Source: Nokia     Translation by: Paul Smith    Send news to friend  Discuss in forum

To say it's been a bit of a rough week for Nokia would be a bit of an understatement. It's easy to post bad news about Nokia right now, just today, for example, the news broke that they had lost a patent case in Germany. I thought it miht make a nice change therefore to post something positive about the company. This was the most positive thing I could find today ... Nokia have shot an ad for the 808 PureView usingjust a PureView. Well I say 'just a PureView', but we can ignore the professional lighting, the hired performers and so on. You get the idea and to be fair it does look pretty decent for having been shot on a mobile phone.

Nokia Looses IPCom Patent Case    [ 20-04-2012 17:34 ]

Author: Irina Turina   Source: Reuters     Translation by: Paul Smith    Send news to friend  Discuss in forum

It's not been a great week for Nokia; first they release some pretty awful looking Q1 financial results and then their head of sales resigns. Now the Finnish manufacturer is facing up to having lost a patent dispute in a court case against IPCom. The court's ruling affects a patent granted back in February of last year and apparently doesn't affect Nokia's current crop of handsets, a Nokia themselves stated:

We respectfully disagree with this decision, but almost all of these phones predated the grant of the patent in February 2001 and our products today use different methods.

There is still some question over whether the patent in question will affect Nokia's current handsets so Nokia will be going to a higher court in order to get clarification on that point.
