O2: iPhone 5 Released On 21st October [ 13-09-2011 18:39 ]

It's been a busy couple of days for iPhone 5 leaks and today we apparently learn that the device will make its debut in the UK on 21st October. That comes courtesy of an O2 customer services rep. Now before we get into whether that date is likely or not based upon previous rumours let's just remember that customer service reps are not necessarily privy to the latest information. I'm not saying that this rep is wrong, but at the same time I am saying that this information should be treated with a pinch of salt.

Having said all that a launch date of late October wouldn't be totally out of step with what we have heard previously. Indeed it ties in with some predictions to have come by before now that the device woouldn't appear at the end of this month as many haave expected. The consensus at the moment is that Apple will at least announce the iPhone 5 at the end of this month, but as to when it will actually be available for sale, well 21st October seems as good a date as any!

Samsung Files New Complaint Against Apple [ 13-09-2011 16:22 ]

The global patent war rages on unabated and Samsung shows no sign of giving in to Apple having filed a new lawsuit against Apple in France alleging that Apple's iPhone and iPad devices infringe upon three of Samsung's patents. Now this is a bit different to what has previously gone down between the two. As you may remember Samsung saw its Galaxy Tab 10.1 banned in Germany, but that was due to quarrels over the physical design of the device. This time we're talking about patents concerning the underlying technology used in the afore mentioned Apple devices.

The three patents cover UMTS communications and affect the iPhone 4, iPhone 3GS, iPhone 3G, iPad and iPad 2. The complaint was filed back in July, but the start of proceedings won't occur until December. No doubt there will be more clashes between the two before then.

First Samsung Windows 8 Tablet Leaked [ 13-09-2011 14:45 ]

Rumour has it that Microsoft's Steven Sinofsky is set to show off a Windows 8 tablet, built by Samsung, this week at the BUILD conference. Well that rumour gained a bit more credulity today with this leaked image.

The image is purported to be thatof a Ssmsung Windows 8 tablet. It was posted on Weibo, which is a Chinese equivalent of Twitter. Unfortunately it is difficult to ascertain the size of the device from the image. The rumour mill is saying that it features a quad-core processor, but apart from that little else is known.
