Video: Windows 8 Super Fast Boot    [ 09-09-2011 21:33 ]

Author: Irina Turina   Source: IntoMobile     Translation by: Paul Smith    Send news to friend  Discuss in forum

Some interesting Windows 8 footage on show today with the boot time the subject of attention. Now before you actually play the video below you may notice that it is just 41 seconds long and that includes a little intro section. That should give you an idea of just how quick the process actually is.

Note the video starts with the laptop's battery being held in the woman's hand to demonstrate that the laptop is switched off and thus the footage you see isn't just the laptop waking up or resuming a session. It is actually booting up from scratch here. No doubt Microsoft are hoping that this sort of super quick response will help to lure customers away from the likes of the iPad or Android tablets. Given that Windows 8 will be Microsoft's avenue into tablets it does give us at least some insight into how they're approaching it.

German Galaxy Tab Ban Upheld    [ 09-09-2011 21:12 ]

Author: Irina Turina   Source: Bloomberg     Translation by: Paul Smith    Send news to friend  Discuss in forum

Apple has succeeded in having a temporary ban on sales of the Galaxy Tab 10.1 upheld in Germany, but the German authorities have gone a little further than that. In the recent decision Apple also won a concession that forced Samsung to withdraw the Samsung Galaxy Tab 7.7 from the IFA trade show in Berlin.

That's definitely a sign of how desperate the situation is for Samsung and it has looked as if things were getting increasingly so for a while now. However, Samsung, like HTC, has launched a lawsuit against Apple and some are wondering how Google will fit into this process. The Big G did bring some of their recently acquired patent warchest to bear in helping HTC launch its patent suit against Apple and the same may hold true for Samsung, especially as Google have been saying publicly that they would stand behind their hardware partners.
