Voice control seems to be the 'in thing' at the moment, no doubt in no small part to the hype and marketing surrounding Siri. There's already been plenty of talk about voice control for Android, but here we have some action for Microsoft's Zune software (on the PC) and Windows Phone platform. Developer keyboardp has been hard at working rigging up a proof of concept system to show off a voice controlled version of Zune's media player on his desktop. The software recognises basic commands such as instructions to play a song, pause a track, etc. The developer also knocked up a version for Windows Phone, a Lumia 800 in this case. The phone version allows the phone to act as a remote control for his desktop based music collection.
Neither the desktop version, ZuneVoice, or the phone version, PhoneZune, is available for public consumption yet. However, apparently integration with Kinect is next on the cards.

Crunch time for webOS is fast approaching with HP's CEO Meg Whitman telling Forbes magazine that a decision on the platform's future will be made within the next two weeks. There doesn't seem to be many options open to HP at the moment though. Having acquired webOS when they bought Palm all HP have to show for the $1.2 billion they paid out is three smartphones that never took off and a tablet device that stuttered to an ignominous end.
HP might decide to hold onto webOS for use on other devices such as PCs or printers. They might also try to license the platform to other companies and there has been many a rumour to say they are attempting to do just that. Of course another option would be to simply call it a day and lay webOS out to pasture.
