Windows Phone might be tanking in terms of marketshare, but it has nevertheless passed a big milestone in terms of growth: it now has 40,000 apps and counting. That might seem like small potatoes compared with the likes of Android and iOS, but remember that Windows Phone is only a year old and already has the third largest app store, having sailed past the likes of RIM. At the moment there are around 165 new apps being added every day although All About Windows Phone notes that 5,000 or so previously released apps have been expunged from the store. Even so there were approximately 5,000 new apps added in the last month alone and with Nokia now onboard the good ship Windows Phone, devs might be a bit more keen to get their creative juices flowing on Microsoft's platform.

An interesting wee video is doing the rounds today showcasing some of the potential for Siri to operate beyond what Apple has currently enabled the service to do. The hack here is fairly straightforward in concept; a proxy server allows Siri to control a thermostat connected to the internet. It's proof of concept and demonstrates that Siri can be used, in theory anyway, to control pretty much anything that's hooked up to the net.
Now the hack isn't ready for anyone and everyone to give it a whirl unless you know what you're doing, but the code has been posted on the web. The chap behind this, @plamoni, says that he is thinking of adding in some functionality to make the hack easier to use. At any rate it's a pretty exciting development for the potential it represents. Siri is still a new service and to be frank the surface hasn't even been scratched when it comes to hacking and modding it.
