Apple: Neither Confirm Nor Deny Malware Infection    [ 20-05-2011 19:04 ]

Author: Serge Novikov   Source: ZDNet     Translation by: Paul Smith    Send news to friend  Discuss in forum

ZDNet have had an internal AppleCare document dealing with the 'Mac Defender' malware leakedto them. I say 'dealing with, but the document takes the line that AppleCare do not provide support for dealing with this malware and that AppleCare employees should neither confirm nor deny that a machine has been infected by the malicious software. You can read the document below, but it's interesting to note Apple's stance on the issue given that this is the first major virus for Mac OS X that has widely spread.

Apple Overhauling Retail For Apple Store 2.0    [ 20-05-2011 18:59 ]

Author: Serge Novikov   Source: 9to5Mac     Translation by: Paul Smith    Send news to friend  Discuss in forum

Apple are set to revamp their retail experience in a move dubbed AppleStore 2.0 according to 9to5Mac. The revamp is to coincide with the 10th anniversary of the launch of Apple's retail division and willsee the stores altered to be more centred around the iPad. To that end paper signage is apparently going the way of the Dodo in favour of... yes you guess it, iPads.

There will be a bigger emphasis upon giving users support to personalise and setup their devices in zones called 'Startup sessions. There is also talk of Apple getting to grips with an in-company payment solution rather than relying on Microsoft software as has been the case in the past.

Nokia Windows Phone To Break With Qualcomm    [ 20-05-2011 18:52 ]

Author: Serge Novikov   Source: Forbes     Translation by: Paul Smith    Send news to friend  Discuss in forum

Nokia are lining up to use chips from ST-Ericsson in their new Windows Phone range according to comments made by Carlo Bozotti, head honcho at STMicroelectronics (the ST part of ST-Ericsson) in Forbes magazine. Up until now Windows Phone handset have been built around Qualcomm chipsets and indeed this will still be the case for Nokia's first foray into Windows Phone. However, the  chipsets will presumably start to appear, most likely the dual-core U8500 by the way, some time afterwards. It's a bit of a blow for Qualcoom I suppose, but it looks like Nokia is stamping a bit of authority on their new partnership.
