iPhone 4 Shrugs Off 1,000 Foot Fall    [ 23-03-2011 20:39 ]

Author: Irina Turina   Source: BGR     Translation by: Paul Smith    Send news to friend  Discuss in forum

The iPhone has, over the course of its existence, come in for some criticism over its durability. From broken glass to overheating to antenna faults to misfitting parts. However, one incident involving an iPhone 4 and a U.S. Air Force plane should help to dispel the idea that the iPhone is a fragile beast.

U.S. Air Force Combat Controller Ron Walker had his iPhone 4 safely tucked inside his pocket, but when the velcro popped apart the iPhone 5 went a tumbling. Tumbling from a plane flying at 150 mph at an altitude of 1,000 feet!

Ground side Walker used the 'Find My iPhone' service to locate his phone and upon arriving at the location found the handset to be not only working perfectly, but there wasn't even a scratch on it! The handset did have a standard Griffin case equipped at the time, but that was the extent of its protection.

So now you know, dropping your iPhone 4 from 1,000 feet is perfectly safe! (Don't try it yourself though!

Win Phone Update Starting To Roll Out    [ 23-03-2011 20:21 ]

Author: Irina Turina   Source: TechRadar     Translation by: Paul Smith    Send news to friend  Discuss in forum

So the much ballyhooed copy/paste (NoDo) update for Windows Phone 7 has finally been released, but not everyone will be getting it at the same time it seems.

British and European Windows Phone users should be amongst the first to receive the update so happy faces there. Just hook the handset up to Zune and away you go! I should point out though that this is for users with unlocked handsets. Those with network locks, such O2 customers, can expect the update sometime early next month according to O2. That could mean next weekend, but that'smore a hope than established fact.

Vodafone UK are saying that the update for the handsets they offer has been approved and that Microsoft will be distributing it shortly. Whatever shortly means.

Whenever the update does finally become available for you it needs to be activated through a wired connection unfortuantely so no OTA shennanigans this time

Microsoft Releasing MSN Onit For Guys    [ 23-03-2011 19:43 ]

Author: Irina Turina     Translation by: Paul Smith    Send news to friend  Discuss in forum

HTC have confirmedMicrosoft have taken the lid off a new app they've been working on, MSN Onit, which can really only be described as a 'guy app'. It offers up content that men would (should?) find interesting, such as stuff from Esquire, Men's Health etc.

The content is very blokish with car themed content from MSN Autos such as reviews, slideshows, etc. There's 'how-to' guides from the likes of Esquire and Popular Mechanics; fitness and health information from Fitbie, Fox Sports Flash, Men's Health, etc. Tech  news comes from MSNBC, LIFE, Popular Mechanics and TheSmokingJacket.com.

You might have been wondering if there is also girl content there too... well yes there is! Not content for girls by the way, the girls are the content here.

It's a free download so any self respecting guy should probably download this. When this hits other countries we imagine the content sources will likely be altered to reflect local tastes.
