Marvell (no not the comic book people) have taken the wrapper off their new baby, the Armada 628 application processor. It is a beast of a processor with 3 cores, two of which will be running at a nippy 1.5 GHz. It crams in enough power to render 200 million triangles per second and can support simultaneous dual 1080p video streams.
Battery life is another area where the chip can boast some impressive specs and claims to be 'ultra' low in its power consumption. 1080p video should last for 10 hours and you'd be looking at somewhere in the vicinity of 140 hours of music playback. It also packs in support for USB 3.0. There's no word on when exactly it will be released, but hopefully soon as smartphones could do with a boost, especially in the power consumption department!

One of the longstanding devices for Windows Phone 7 that hasn't been forthcoming in leaked pictures or videos has been the HTC HD3/HD7. Well today that changed with a couple of shots of this beast finally making an appearance on the interwebs. You'll notice that the handset is branded as the HD3, which would be a logical progression from HTC's earlier Windows Mobile handsets, the HD2. However, there is still some speculation as to the name of this device with some holding that 'HD3' is a codename and that the final moniker will in fact be 'HD7'.
Whatever the name turns out to be it looks like a major device in HTC's armoury. Specs aren't available yet, but obviously we know the minimum standard they will have to conform to. Note he presence of a kickstand on the back, like the EVO in the States.

One of the more controversial decisions Microsoft took regarding its forthcoming Win Phone 7 platform was to leave out copy/paste at launch. However, a tweet by Brandon Watson, head of the Developer Experience team for Win Phone 7, does open up some new posisbilities on this front.
As you can see from the tweet copy/paste looks to be getting some attention, but it is important to stress here that this won't be a feature you'll see in Win Phone 7 itself at launch, rather support for the feature is being added to the dev tools for the platform. What's the difference? Basically that devs will be able to incoporate copy/paste into apps they develop, but consumers won't see copy/paste on Win Phone7 itself, not in the beginning anyway.
It's not the news consumers would like of course, but at least it shows Microsoft is looking at the situation. Hopefully an integrated solution for the OS itself is not too far away.

You know the old joke about Sony Ericsson never being able to do anything on time? Well it's a joke that just keeps on playing itself out as the company have announced that the Eclair update for the X10 is ... anyone? ... yes that's right, it's delayed! Initially the release of the update was scheduled for sometime in Q3 i.e. now, but it was not to be as they have now released a revised timetable saying that updates will begin from the end of October onwards.
There is so much wrong with this siuation that it's difficult to know where to begin. First of all we have the delayed update of course, but then we remember that the update is only Eclair, which is a full iteration behind the current version, Froyo. Even Froyo will soon be obsolete when Gingerbread hits sometime later this year. The FAIL doesn't stop there though because the update is being released at different times for different people!
"I’d also like to highlight that the update will be made available in a phased roll-out which means that different “kits” get the update at different times. It will take some additional weeks from end of October before all different kits have the new software available."
Seriously guys you can do better than this. Your long suffering customers surely deserve more than this for sticking with you throughout this nightmare. Throw them a bone!
