One of today's biggest talking points has been comments concerning Android made by outgoing Nokia CEO Anssi Vanjoki. The actual comment he made was that if Nokia were to use Android it would be like pissing your pants to stay warm. In other words what he was saying is that despite the short term relief peeing your pants provides in the long run it's not the best idea.
Ok fair enough we understand the point behind his comments and it's reasonable point to make ... if it were true. The problem of course is that Nokia are betting their money (and likely their company) on Symbian and MeeGo. In a nutshell Symbian is a dinosaur and no amount of glitter and corporate buzz is going to stop that asteroid from hitting. MeeGo is at least engaging with users better, but it's very much a niche player at the moment in a market where size really does count, especially when it comes to apps and dev support. More than that though MeeGo doesn't have the same sort of mindshare that Android or iOS, or hell even Blackberry OS, has.
Perhaps this is why Mr Vanjoki is exiting his post? After all his tenure at the helm hasn't seen the good ship Nokia through the storm to the safety of port now has it? Rather than a matter of practicality it's more likely a matter of pride. Nokia is the biggest mobile manufacturer in the world and surely the biggest manufacturer shouldn't have to stoop to using someone else's OS? It's a shame really because Android has done wonders for companies like HTC and Motorola and Nokia could be leading the pack (and sales) with some Android handsets of their own.

Apple has made what could turn out to be an interesting little purchase, namely a company specialising in face recognition software. The company, Polar Rose, developed something called 'FaceCloud', which, in layman's terms, could automatically identify and name everyone in a picture or an album. Using this and other Polar Rose software, Apple could conceivably introduce some very swish new features to its iPhone range as well as its computers and other devices that use cameras or webcams.
One example, and perhaps the most obvious, would be to tag a picture when it is taken so that the people in it are immediately identified. Another might be something a bit flashier (pardon the pun) such as unlocking your device just by looking at it. At any rate it's pretty much a given that we'll see some sort of enhanced facial recognition service coming to Apple devices and most likely the iPhone.

Here we have the HTC Mozart in all its glory on video and once again we see the, quite frankly, lightning fast response times of Windows Phone 7. That's one aspect of this new platform that really looks to be spot on, there is geneuinly no lag present here. Fair enough we only see a very brief glimpse of the handset here and of course things may slow with use. However, the point is still valid, this thing is quick.
In terms of specifications there's no real surprises here given that Microsoft have set minimum standards for Win Phone 7 handsets. There's the standard 1 GHz Snapdragon, 576 MB of RAM, 1,300 mAh battery, 3.7" WVGA SLCD screen and an 8 MP camera with Xenon Flash.
