Microsoft have released the first advert for its forthcoming Windows Phone 7 platform. The ad was screened at the 'Secret Cinema' event in London before a showing of Lawrence of Arabia and looks to have bene themed to coincide with the film it was running alongside. It contains nothing you haven't seen before in terms of the paltform itself and it's really just eye candy at this stage so take a look and enjoy.

iOS 4.1 is promising users the ability to take what are known as 'high dynamic range (HDR) pictures, an ability that should see your picture quality improve. Note, however, that I said 'should', because the boys at TechThrow decided to take a closer look at the feature and what they found isn't too inspiring. As it turns out their test showed that the HDR feature actually made the pictures look worse in many, if not most, cases.
How an HDR photo works is reasonably simple in theory, basically the camera takes multiple exposures of the same image and those exposures are then combined into one final image. This should have the effect of making a picture sharper and more natural looking. Nokia have also been testing this technology and have been contributing towards FCam, an open source initiative. Both the demo pictures shown off by Nokia and Apple looked pretty sweet, but it seems that back here in this thing we call reality the results aren't quite so good.

Call us cynical if you like, but when you bring in a fading actress/porn-star to take part in a thinly veiled sexualised promotion for your new smartphone it doesn't say much for the phone. That is just what Nokia have done to promote the launch of the N8. They are offering customers the chance to win a role in a short film called 'The Commuter'. The winner will get to star in a scene with Pamela Anderson in a bedroom scene. Sadly the 'bedroom scene' is just a scene, in which the winner would be someone sharing a room with her.
In a completely spontaneous and off the cuff statement Anderson gushed "I'm really excited about the film and can't wait to get on set. I don't want to give too much away, but my scenes are shot in a bedroom and I'm looking forward to going back to my Finnish roots and sharing my bed with a Nokia N8!".
The film is being shot with the N8 and will also star Ed Westwick, whom you can also win a scene with. Mind you something tells us the scene with Pamela Anderson will likely receive more entries.
