The Galaxy Tab isn't even on shop shelvesyet and Samsung are already revealing some plans for a new clutch of tablets in the next couple of years. The South Korean firm has confirmed that more tablets will appear next year and that they will be using a different version of the Android OS than is used on the Galaxy Tab.
The Galaxy Tab's upgrade path takes in Gingerbread, the next iteration of Android, but that's it. WP Hong, Samsung's head of product planning, coonfirmed that the Galaxy Tab will not be getting Honeycomb. "Moving forward, with Honeycomb, that will be used in the next generation tablet, as it [Honeycomb] is specifically optimised for different type of tablet, and will be used on another product only". What those 'specific optimisations' where he didn't elaborate, but clearly Android is the way forward as far as Samsung is concerned.
After the release of the Honeycomb tablet in 2011 Samsung plan on releasing more tablets, 'a portolio of products' in fact in 2012.

Speculation over new handsets is nothing new, but an interesting piece of chatter appeared on the interwebs today abou an old handset being re-released. The handset in question, the HD2, was almost universally cosnidered a superb handset, but one that had the misfortune of being saddled with an outdated OS i.e. Windows Mobile.
Rumour has it that the HD2 might, just might, be about to have a second coming as the HD3, running Windows Phone ,7 on the UK's O2 network. The rumour arose from what is alleged to be a leaked spreadsheet from O2, but there is no network branding to be found on it so the provinence of the spreadsheet remains in question. The network is listed on the spreadsheet as the HD7, perhaps the 7 being a nod to Windows Phone 7 OS.
There are other possibilities of course. One is that the whole spreadsheet is a fabrication. Another possibility is that the HD7 is in fact a codename for the HTC Mozart or some other existing HTC Windows Phone 7 smartphone. We won't have too much longer to wait to find out of course, the official launch of Windows Phone 7 is less than two months away.

Windows 7 reached a very important milestone on its journey to commercial release today, the final, gold, version of the firmware was released to manufacturers. The Windows Phone 7 blog gushed "Today is the day that the Windows Phone team has been driving towards, and we're very excited to say that we've reached the biggest milestone for our internal team - the release to manufacturing (RTM) of Windows Phone 7!". The version that's been sent to the manufacturers will be what you see when the first Windows Phone 7 devices are released sometime in the next month or two.
There are still some i's to dot and t's to cross though "While the final integration of Windows Phone 7 with our partners' hardware, software, and networks is underway, the work of our internal engineering team is largely complete". Windows Phone 7 actually ranks as Microsoft's most heavily tested OS ever apparently. They've been using almost 10,000 devices running automated daily tests and they've clocked up more than half a million hours of usage. Hopefully that translates into a product with few, if any, bugs come release day.

Apple. for all their PR wizardry, aren't known for always sticking entirely to what's true. More correctly they are known for bending facts a little (or a lot) to fit their view of events. The latest such incident came during Apple's media event just the other day when Steve Jobs announced that Apple was activating 230,000 devices a day. The reason this is important is because Google had recently announced they were activating 200,000 devices a day. Strike one for Apple.
However, Steve Jobs wasn't content with saying that Google were behind Apple in activations, no he put a swift boot in by saying he didn't believe Google's numbers in the first place.
"We think ome of our friends are counting upgrades in their numbers ... we think we are ahead of everyone".
Google was quick to issue a response to attempt to nullify Apple's reality distortion field. A Google spokesman clarified the situation "The Android activation numbers do not include upgrades and are, in fact, only a portion of the Android devices in the market since we only include devices that have Google services". In other words Steve Jobs is wrong.
It wasn't just Google's mobile division that came in for a poke from Jobs, he had a jab at Google TV too. He lauded Apple TV's ability to bring customers 'Hollywood blockbusters' and popular TV shows, whilst saying they didn't want 'amateur hour'. That's a not so subtle reference to Google TV's ability to grab videos from just about anywhere, including amateur sites. Somewhat hypocritically Jobs was singing the praies of Apple TV being able to play YouTube movies and HD videos from YouTube. Isn't YouTube the king of all amteur video sites?
