Video: X10 Mini Advert    [ 14-05-2010 17:39 ]

Author: Irina Turina   Source: SE-NSE     Translation by: Paul Smith    Send news to friend  Discuss in forum

Sony Ericsson's X10 Mini, the X10's little brother, will soon be upon us (rumours point to early June) and as the release approaches there's more chatter about this little handset. The latest scuttlebut is this advert for the American market, which would indicate that Sony Ericsson do actually have some hopes that this will do well there. It's quite a nice little advert actually, featuring some breakdancing fingers and shows off the handset quite nicely. It also shows just how small the handset is, which, believe us, is very small indeed! Check out the video and see what you think.

Spotify for iPhone Gets In-App Browser For Social Media    [ 14-05-2010 13:50 ]

Author: Serge Novikov   Source: TechRadar     Translation by: Paul Smith    Send news to friend  Discuss in forum

The seemingly universally popular Spotify has been adding a numbe rof new features of late, not the least of which has been Facebook integration with its desktop client. Now the iPhone version is getting an in-app browser that will intoduce similar social media options. You can open up the in-app browser to share your taste in music with Twitter and Facebook. Other features making the cut in version 0.4.5 include the ability for other users to suggest tracks you may like, and Spotify  will very handily search for tracks in compilation albums should your music of choice not be avilable in Spotify's library. The update bringing the enhancemnets should be live now so if you have the app you can update straight away (if you haven't already). Now for the bad news, well bad news if you are using Android or Symbian, like the original launch of the app in the various app stores it seems as if the iPhone is first, the rest will have to be patient until the update comes rolling their way.

Sharp IS01 Android Smartbook On Sale Next Month    [ 14-05-2010 11:53 ]

Author: Irina Turina   Source: IntoMobile     Translation by: Paul Smith    Send news to friend  Discuss in forum

Sharp have taken the lid off a new Android smartbook they're offerring, the IS01. Note the term 'smartbook' there, this isn't a smartphone or a notebook, it's inbetween those devices and apparently offers the best of both i.e. the battery life of a smartphone and the larger keyboard of a notebook. The screen comes in at 5", so not all that much bigger than a smartphone and sports a 960x480 resolution display. The processor is a Snapdragon effort running at 1 GHz. As mentioned this is an Android device and the dev version is running 1.6 so that seems likely for the final release, hence no 2.1 here, but maybe a later update will fix that? Sharp have released an SDK for the device so devs can get to work developing some content for the device and it will have Market access, but not everything in the store will have been optimised for the IS01 so there may be some disappointment when a favoured app doesn't work. There's no word on pricing, but the device is due to launch next month.

Facebook Integration With iPhone OS 4.0    [ 14-05-2010 11:46 ]

Author: Serge Novikov   Source: Pocket-lint     Translation by: Paul Smith    Send news to friend  Discuss in forum

One glaring omission from the iPhone OS that Android users have long enjoyed is tight integration between the handset's contact list and social networking sites. Well it looks like iPhone users might be about to get some of that love in the form of Facebook integration with the next iPhone. A source told Business Insider that the integration would offer a lot of Facebook content for the iPhone such as syncing data from Facebook contacts like email addresses and birthdays. Facebook messaging may also be possible or wall posts direct from a person's entry in your contact list. Aside from the user features Business Insider mentions an interesting development hat Apple may implement, incorporation of Facebook Diect into their SDK. That would allow devs to include Facebook features in apps, further tightening the integration. We'll know whether any of this pans out soon enough of course as Apple's WDC event is scheduled to get under way on 7th June.

X10 Is DoCoMo's Best Selling Smartphone Of All Time    [ 14-05-2010 11:14 ]

Author: Serge Novikov   Source: Engadget     Translation by: Paul Smith    Send news to friend  Discuss in forum

Sony Ericsson will be all smiles given the news that the X10 has been confirmed by NTT DoCoMo as their best selling smartphone ... ever! The actual sales figures are somewhere in the region of 100,000 sold within 20 days, which is pretty impressive it has to be said. However, it is a bit of a curious tale that the X10 should have sold this well in Japan. For oone thing it doesn't really fit into DoCoMo's ecosystem very well, take i-mode mail for example, the X10 isn't playing nice with it. Those sort of incompatabilities are only one issue, there are also the various bugs to contend with, which have hampered performance. The thing is though that Japan, whilst offerring some really top notch feature phone, isn't exactly setting the world alight with its range of available smartphones. DoCoMo themselves are offerring handsets like the Bold and the Magic and even the Touch Diamond. None of these handsets, like the X10, integrate well with DoCoMo's proprietary servicesso the X10 doesn't really stand out in that respect. Some might say that this makes the X10 the best of a 'bad bunch' in Japan, but that's being somwhat harsh, still with relatively weak competition from the rest of DoCoMo's smartphone lineup the X10 wouldn't have found it hard to take the top spot.
