Sony Ericsson Says No To Google    [ 18-02-2010 20:20 ]

Google comes knocking at your door and says 'Hello! You fancy building us a phone?". You reply "No way man!". That's pretty much what Sony Ericsson did when Google asked them to build the Nexus One, at least according to Bert Nordberg, Sony Ericsson's President. Why did they say no? Basically it comes down to Sony Ericsson thinking that building a handset for someone else would dilute their brand and consign them to the ranks of a bit player. Quite frankly I think many would say they missed a trick here because HTC, who did build the Nexus One, received a generous amount of attention because of it and given Sony Ericsson's recent performance that's something they could surely do with. Sony Ericsson's own Android handset, the X10, is still a couple of months away from general release.
