Windows Phones Series 7 Is Official    [ 15-02-2010 19:06 ]

Author: Irina Turina   Source: Engadget     Translation by: Administrator    Send news to friend  Discuss in forum

Microsoft have finally unveiled their long awaited 7 series operating system, Windows Phone Series 7 to give it its full title. They've comepletely rebuilt their platform from the ground up and 7 does away with the old familiar look of previous incarnations such as the Start screen. Just to emphasise that point, this isn't just a new version of WinMo, this is a brand new OS. It's very Zune like in appearance and definitely much more finger friendly. The home screen is a now a series of large icons and widgets, which can be customised to suit user tastes and which scroll vertically up and down. Social networking features prominently with integrated contacts showing status updates from different services and easy access to things like picture galleries. It's not just the software that's being touted here hough, Microsoft have become a lot more stringent on hardware with dictate son specifications like which processor to use, screen resolution etc. Perhaps most interestingly this fully translates to their hardware partners with customisations like HTC's SENSE UI out the window. There will be a single interface from now on. In terms of partners Microsoft have signed up a collection of networks from around the world and manufacturers including Sony Ericsson, LG and of course HTC.

Windows 7 Peeks Out    [ 15-02-2010 16:19 ]

Losse slips sink ships as the saying goes and loose sign covers leak spy shots it seems. Someone snuck a shot of Microsoft's forhcoming Windows 7 OS. The shot confirms what had already been suspected i.e. XBox integration an a simpler UI with a much more finger friendly interface than previous versions of WinMo as exemplified by the large icons on show. The device itself looks pretty simple in terms of design; a large screen bordered by a black bezel and thin metal frame. The bottom of the handset is dominated by three buttons, possibly touch sensitive in nature, and these are the only controls visible in the shot. The question now is whether this is the Zune phone or whether it's something else?

Sony Ericsson Announces the Fab 5    [ 15-02-2010 16:05 ]

Author: Serge Novikov     Translation by: Administrator    Send news to friend  Discuss in forum

Sony Ericsson had a fruitful night at MWC last night, announcing three new handsets and getting Sony President Sir Howard Stringer on stage for a few comments. The handsets weren't that much of a surprise for anyone who follows Sony Ericsson since they had already been leaked over the past few months. Perhaps the most interesting development was that the X10 family of handsets now stands at 3, underscoring how important the handsets are to Sony Ericsson. So far most commentators have been pretty positive, especially about the X10 Mini and X10 Mini Pro (check out the hands on video of the X10 Mini below courtesey of SE-First.com).

Sony Ericsson are saying that all of last night's new handsets should be out in Q2. Sony Ericsson aren't known for keeping to timetables so we'll take that with a pinch of salt. Still, Sony Ericsson look to bemaking a big push towards getting Android to the masses with these handsets. The Symbian front was represented too with the announcement of the Vivaz Pro, the QWERTY keyboard version of Vivaz we saw leaked not so long ago. Performance wise it's said to be comparable to Satio. Collectively Vivaz, the X10 and last night's new handsets are being dubbed the Fabulous Five. Only time will tell if they live up to that monicker ...
