Samsung Said to be Releasing Symbian Handset This Year    [ 23-04-2010 20:54 ]

Author: Irina Turina   Source: IntoMobile     Translation by: Administrator    Send news to friend  Discuss in forum

IntoMobile are reporting that Samsung are supposedly looking to release a Symbian handset at some point this year. Why is this news some may ask? Well for one thing Samsung is already supporting a number of OSs, including its own Bada, and of course Android and Windows Phone 7. With three OSs some might expect Samsung to stop there and drop Symbian, but apparently that won't be the case for the South Korean manufacturer. Indeed, the last Samsung Symbian handset, the Omnia HD, was pretty decent so hopefully the next one at least lives up to that if it isn't in fact better. In terms of timescale there isn't even a hint, you're witnessing the birth of the rumour around whatever this handset will be right here.

The Wedding Is Off ... HTC Says No to Palm Deal    [ 23-04-2010 20:12 ]

Author: Irina Turina   Source: Engadget     Translation by: Administrator    Send news to friend  Discuss in forum

It's a sad day for all those looking to see what many thought was a match made in heaven, HTC buying Palm. With HTC's hardware skills, and Palm's much praised webOS many posited that we would be in for some true gadgetry treats. Alas it was not to be ... Reuters are reporting that HTC aren;t interested in the deal, apparently saying that there weren't enough 'synergies' i.e. Palm is in really bad shape and it would probably put a hefty financial strain on HTC. With HTC out of the running there are still some other suitors who may still go for the deal, even if Palm CEO was yesterday saying that he thought Palm could still go it alone. One such company is Lenovo, another Asian electronics company like HTC. Unlike HTC Lenovo isn;t in the mobile game yet, but acuiring Palm would certainly give it a good toehold in that space.

App Market Problem for HTC & SE Android Users    [ 23-04-2010 19:14 ]

Author: Irina Turina   Source: Pocket-lint     Translation by: Administrator    Send news to friend  Discuss in forum

There are reports appearing that some Android users are finding that they can't access certain apps in the Market. The problems seems to centre around users of the following handsets: HTC Desire, HTC Legend, and the Sony Ericsson X10. Essentially what is happening is that these handsets aren't being allowed to access apps that feature copy protection. For an Android handset to access copy protected content from the Market it has to communicate with Google and show the Big G a unique fingerprint based on its ROM. Apparently this isn't happening with the afore mentioned handsets.

For their part HTC are saying that they have submitted the relevant fingerprints to Google and it is Google that are trailing, not having updated their database yet. No word on whether Sony Ericsson has done likewise, indeed no word on whether they even recognise that there is a problem. On the end user front threads have started appearing on the web asking about the matter. Until Google updates their database with the new ROM fingerprints there isn't much that can be done. Well that's not technically true, there is an .apk that can be downloaded to bypass the issue, but that's hardly the easiest option for many users, especially those who aren't very technically minded.
