Spotify Is A Go-Go for iPhone & Android    [ 07-09-2009 17:28 ]

Well the day has finally arrived ... Spotify is officially on the iPhone. Of course it's only for premium members, but Spotify will no doubt be hoping that the promise of offline music caching and the portability of the iPhone will entice more users to upgrade from the free service, which is supported by ads. The app is so far riding on a wave of mostly favourable reviews with the negative ones mostly concentrating around the fact that there is no free ad supported option for the iPhone. There was another surprise today in that Spotify also launched on the Android Marketplace. Many had expected an Android app, but not quite so soon. The Spotify app itself is free, but you can only use it by signing in with your premium Spotify account. One annoying downside to the iPhone app is that it apparently won't allow music to be played in the background like the iPod app does (maybe this is why it was passed?), whereas the Android version does.
