3rd party Web Browsers now available on Apple's App Store    [ 14-01-2009 19:08 ]

Author: Irina Turina     Translation by: Administrator    Send news to friend  Discuss in forum

Up until now, 3rd party Web Browsers were not available for Apple's iPod Touch/iPhone, via the App Store. Today, this is no longer the case, as Apple have now approved 3rd party Web Browsers for download on the App Store. In total, there are currently four different Browsers to choose from - the Edge Browser, which is free of charge, WebMate, which sells for $0.99, Incognito, which also sells for $0.99, and, lastly, Shaking Web, which retails for $1.99. These Browsers all have a different feature than the one before it - Edge Browser offers a full screen mode, to take advantage of the iPod Touch/iPhone's screen real estate, WebMate offers the user tabbed browsing, and Incognito doesn't save the user's history, allowing for "hidden" browsing, and Shaking Web incorporates anti shake technology, allowing for easier browsing on the move.

So, now, users of the iPhone/iPod Touch have a few different choices, which each offer something different, if they don't wish to use the default browser, Safari. It will be interesting to see if the Opera Browser, which was previously declined, gets approved for the App Store. Should this be the case, no doubt Firefox Mobile would soon be making its way to the App Store.

Image dictionaries to be implemented into Sony Ericsson cameraphones in the future?    [ 14-01-2009 17:47 ]

Author: Irina Turina     Translation by: Administrator    Send news to friend  Discuss in forum

Sony Ericsson have filed a new patent, named as “CAMERA DICTIONARY BASED ON OBJECT RECOGNITION.” Essentially, what would happen is that you would point your image dictionary-equipped cameraphone, at an object, known as a "target object".

Then, the camera's software would identify various things about the object - such as its name, and where it came from, which would then be displayed on the phone's display. This feature would be available in various languages, other than English. There's no telling when, or if this patent will be implemented into cameraphones, but, Sony Ericsson will be on hand to announce it.
