Nokia Flagship Store To Close    [ 08-12-2009 20:35 ]

Nokia have announced that their flagship store in London's Regent Street is to close after weak footfall. The store is rumoured to have cost Nokia a very cool £4 million to open and if it isn't beinging in the punters then it's not doing much for Nokia's bottom line. Having said all that the idea behind these flagship stores was allegedly to develop 'mindshare', to promote and talk up the brand rather than drive sales directly. What this means for Nokia's other flagship stores around the world isn't clear and so far there isn't any sign that any of them will be closing or indeed any other Nokia stores in the UK. Of course if Nokia is finding it hard to draw a crowd in the middle of the biggest busiest city in Europe, one of their biggest markets, that doesn't exactly bode well ...

1% of App Store Is Pulled From Sale    [ 08-12-2009 19:21 ]

Author: Irina Turina   Source: Pocket-lint     Translation by: Administrator    Send news to friend  Discuss in forum

There's trouble brewing over at the old app store ... well Apple's App store. It looks like there may have been some shenanigans going on with rating certain apps ... all from the same developer. So the sory goes a reader of the iPhoneography blog noticed that certain apps were receiving five star reviews, in broken english, from the same reviewers, and that all these apps were made by a developer called Molinker. Well the reader got in touch with Apple's Phil Schiller about the situation and Schiller confirmed that the apps had been pulled, along with the reviews. AppFreak contacted Molinker to get their side of the story and were told "We got email from Apple yesterday [Sunday 6th] which told us our contract is changed to pending status. Actually, we do not know what’s wrong so far. We had contacted Apple for such sudden changes, hope we can get quick response and actions from Apple". The scale of the situation shouldn't be underestimated as Molinker contributes 1% of all apps in the app store, so pulling them from sale is a major move on Apple's part. However, it looks like a necessary move to ensure that customers retain faith in the rating system.
