Archos Planning Android Tablet?    [ 20-08-2009 19:11 ]

You could be forgiven for thinking that the mobiverse centred around Redmond these past few days, after all there has been a flurry of news surrounding WinMo. Well in other news ... Android looks set to be making the leap from mobile phones to media tablet, if the current speculation over a press event Archos is about to hld proves true. Archos have sent out invitations for an event in Paris on 15th September and as a result of some comments made by the company's Northern European Marketing Director the current word on the street is thatit will be a tablet that's unveiled.

Obviously he specs aren't confirmed as yet, but so far rumour is holding that it will feature the following:

  • 800 MHz TI OMAP 3440 CPU
  • 5 inch HD screen
  • HSPA support (likely European bands)
  • 10 mm thickness
  • 500 MB internal storage

Essentially it will be a media device, but also feature telephony and e-mail support. At ay rate an Android tablet would mark a big step forward for the OS as it increasingly gathers pace throughout 2009 with more and more devices being launched or announced.

Microsoft to Devs: You're Worth More than $0.99    [ 20-08-2009 18:40 ]

Author: Irina Turina   Source: Engadget     Translation by: Administrator    Send news to friend  Discuss in forum

It feels like app stores are ten a penny these days and to be honest that's not all that far from the truth. With the huge success of Apple's App Store there has been at least onw downside, developer revenue. Basically it has become harder for devs to make a profit in the App Store due to the sheer volume of apps available, many of which are either free or under £1. If a dev decides to charge more for his app then the likely outcome is that customers will simply choose a cheaper alternative. Well it seems Microsoft have caught onto this trend and are looking to do something about it, no doubt in an effort to lure devs into coding for WinMo devices. One Microsoft spokesman commented that whilst a price of $0.99 was attractive to customers he felt that devs deserved more than that for an app. Long term Microsoft is looking at weeding out the more low-quality apps in favour of a stable of high-quality apps that may come with an equally high-quality price tag. That may be fine and dandy for the long-term, but will they have enough cheap shiny loud boredom busting content for the launch?
