WinMo 6.5 Getting Capacitive Upgrade Come February?    [ 19-08-2009 18:40 ]

Author: Serge Novikov   Source: Phone Arena     Translation by: Administrator    Send news to friend  Discuss in forum

Recently there has been quite a bit of action on the WinMo scene, leaked ROMs of upcoming handsets and leaked videos of new 6.5 builds. Well the latest bit of excitement centering around the Redmon camp is that WinMo 6.5 is to receive an update supporting capacitive touchscreens. DigiTimes is citing sources at Taiwanese manufacturers as saying that 6.5 will indeed receive such an update around February next year. Why get excited? Well up until now WinMo has been decidedly unfriendly to direct finger use although the recent video of the 23022 build did suggest a move towards finger use. At the moment the market is heavily leaning towards touchscreens and capacitive touchscreens are dominating. WinMo 7 itself should fully support capacitive touchscreens and with 6.5 not being retired when 7 launches some are wondering how they will co-exist. The word is that 65 will be given a price reduction to enable it to compete with Android whilst 7 will be Redmond's heavy hitter to take on the grandaddy of touchscreens, the iPhone itself.

iPhone Bug: Search & Read 'Deleted' Emails    [ 19-08-2009 18:39 ]

Author: Ivanov Konstantin   Source: Pocket-lint     Translation by: Administrator    Send news to friend  Discuss in forum

Another flaw in the iPhone's security ahs come to light and like some previous bugs it's a bit of a whopper. This time the bug centres around email, namely the ability to read emails that were supposedly deleted. How it works is that if you delete an email from your iPhone, going through all the folders it might be stored in and removing it you can still find it and read its contents using the search function that comes with the 3.0 firmware update. Apparently 3.0 stores a copy of the email somewhere for ease of searching, but it lso means that deleting an email has no real effect since they can still be read. A fix for the bug is imminent and should be released with the enxt version of iPhone firmware.
