5800 Star Trek Edition
[ 29-04-2009 17:40 ]
Author: Irina Turina Source: Pocket Lint Translation by: Administrator
Nokia are set to release a Star Trek themed version of the 5800 to tie in with the forthcoming film. It will be exclusively available from Phones4U in the UK (no word on other countries I'm afraid). The handset will be laoded with various Star Trek content including screensavers, wallpapers and ringtones. The ringtones apparently will feature such tones as 'Red Alert', 'Phaser Shot' and 'Kelvin Communicator'. There is also talk of a phaser app on the handset, but details of that are sketchy at the moment. Aside from the usual reason of wanting to associate a product with a big film there is another reason for this tie-in; Nokia features in the film itself! The Nokia brand appears on a touchscreen panel in an old car near the start of the film. The Star Trek 5800 is available from 1st May.

N97 Processor Details Revealed
[ 29-04-2009 17:14 ]
Author: Irina Turina Source: Phone Arena Translation by: Administrator
The N97 will soon be upon us and many people are itching to find out all they can about it. Well the good news is that details of the processor have become available, the bad news is that it may disappoint some. For the N97 Nokia have decided to use a single ARM 11 processor with a clock speed of 434 MHz. This does seem a bit low and some were expecting to see a processor packing a bit more punch, something in the 600 MHz region say, which would be comparable with other handsets announced so far this year or even with the E55. It's also worth noting that the processor Nokia have chosen doesn't give the N97 that much more power than it's other touchscreen handset, the 5800, which runs at 369 MHz. Of course clock speed isn't the full story with a handset and we can expect other strategies for ensuring the handset runs smoothly e.g. software optimisation.
