July Launch for N97 on Vodafone UK    [ 20-04-2009 14:15 ]

Author: Irina Turina   Source: Vodafone     Translation by: Administrator    Send news to friend  Discuss in forum

The N97 is go for a July release on Vodafone UK. There is no pricing mentioned although given past releases of high-end Nokia handsets it woldn't be unreasonable to expect it to be free on a relatively high monthly contract at first.

Vodafone is taking requests for updates on the N97's progress, but as yet there is no pre-order option.

Samung Predicts 29% Smartphone Share by 2012    [ 20-04-2009 13:48 ]

Author: Serge Novikov   Source: Globe and Mail via Boy Genius Report     Translation by: Administrator    Send news to friend  Discuss in forum

Samsung are predicting that smartphones will jump from 14% of the market today to 29% by 2012. That translates to 500 million smartphones being sold in 2012, by comparison it's expected that 2009 will see 170 million smartphones sold.

Tying in with this Samsung expects touchscreen devices to make up 50% of mobile devices, not just mobiles, but cameras, mp3 players, etc. Such growth, Samsung says, would fuel the adoption of OLEDs.

Samsung would certainly seem to be adhering to these sort of forecasts given their recent proclivity for touchscreen handsets.

(Slightly) New Look for Android 1.5 UI    [ 20-04-2009 13:32 ]

Author: Serge Novikov   Source: Android Developers Blog via Engadget     Translation by: Administrator    Send news to friend  Discuss in forum

Android 1.5 has had some changes to its UI, minor changes it has to be said, but changes nonetheless. The new default look may not be groundbreaking, but the changes are enough to potentially cause problems for some existing apps. This is due to the minimum button size having been reduced from 44x48 to 24x48.

In the picture above you can see the new look buttons.
