Manufacturers are pumping out mobile phones with a high number of megapixels left and right, and LG is no exception. But, unlike other manufacturers, LG also make some of their handsets with a high megapixel count pretty cheap – they may not have the highest specs in other departments, but corners have to be cut in places. The latest LG leak is the KC780 slider, its main trump being that it sports an 8MP camera.

Known specs are as follows:

Connectivity: Quad-band GSM, EDGE, and GPRS
Camera: 8MP with autofocus, red eye reduction, and face detection
Video recording: maximum frame rate – 30 FPS
Memory: 140MB internal, external MicroSD card slot
Extras: Bluetooth and USB 2.0

The megapixel race seems to show no sign of slowing down – what with many 8MP cameraphones to be available in the coming months – one being available now – the i8510, from Samsung. Now, the first 9MP unit is available – all that’s left to do is for a phone manufacturer to implement it into a handset. Developed by Digital Imaging Systems, it’s capable of shooting still images at a maximum resolution of 3488 x 2616. It also sports ultra-fast autofocus, and a mechanical shutter. Commercial units will be available to manufacturers from the end of the year.

Sony Ericsson’s Play Now Plus service, which will offer unlimited music downloads, similar to Nokia’s Comes With Music, is to launch sometime in the coming weeks, the company announced today.
