Firefox Mobile version coming to Nokia's N810    [ 15-10-2008 17:43 ]

Author: Serge Novikov   Source: unwiredview     Translation by: Administrator    Send news to friend  Discuss in forum

The first Alpha version of Firefox Mobile is to be released next week, and to be only available for Nokia's touchscreen equipped N810 Internet Tablet. Of course, as the N810 has a touchscreen, Firefox Mobile will sport a touchscreen UI. Don't think this version of Firefox will be stripped down - it features many things that are available on the Desktop version. Obviously, given Firefox is Open-Source, expect to see some exsisting add-ons from the Desktop version ported, and, obviously, exclusive ones.

On the subject of Firefox Mobile, it's been revealed that a version for Windows Mobile is in development, and, an Alpha version is schedule for release, sometime within the next few months. Though the screenshots don't indicate much of note, it's nice to see them regardless.

Nokia touchscreen N-Series handset coming sooner than expected    [ 15-10-2008 16:15 ]

Author: Irina Turina   Source: symbian-freak     Translation by: Administrator    Send news to friend  Discuss in forum

It's been known that Nokia are not only working on the 5800 Tube touchscreen handset, but, a high-end N-Series touchscreen device as well, for quite some time now. At an event, held a few days ago, held in New Delhi, India, Nokia said that they are indeed working on several touchscreen handsets, including an N-Series handset, sporting a touchscreen, to no-one's surprise.

The surprise is that the high-end touchscreen N-Series handset will be announced very shortly, and is said to be available to buy, from early next year, just a short while after the 5800 Tube hits the market. Confirming these speculations, Devinder Kishore, director marketing, Nokia India at an event in New Delhi said "We will have lot of touchscreen phones coming up, including an N-series device very soon"

Motroloa at work on social networking-focused handset, running Android?    [ 15-10-2008 15:25 ]

Author: Serge Novikov   Source: intomobile     Translation by: Administrator    Send news to friend  Discuss in forum

Motorola seem pretty determined to get Google's Android OS onto some of their forthcoming handsets - what with the recent increase in number of people on their Android team up to 350 employees, for one thing. Recently, it was revealed that the Android team are at work on an Android-powered smartphone, with it's key focus being on social networking. This seems a pretty smart move by Motorola, being as social networking is all the rage these days. Many handsets integrate many aspects of social networking these days, but not one has it as a core focus, and, if Motorola can get this right, then perhaps they can get themselves back on track, in the mobile phone industry.

Number of T-Mobile G1's pre-ordered reaches 1.5 million    [ 15-10-2008 14:24 ]

Author: Irina Turina   Source: intomobile     Translation by: Administrator    Send news to friend  Discuss in forum

HTC's Android-powered G1 handset, to be exclusively available in the US, from the 22nd of this month, has sold a staggering 1.5 million, in terms of pre-orders. Initially, it was thought that the G1 will sell around 400,000 units, before years-end.

Well, the number of pre-orders has trounced that figure, and there's still two and a half months to go, until years end. It seems, despite not having the most impresive spec sheet, punters are taken in by the open source nature of Android, and the G1.What with LG and Samsung announcing they're working on Android-based handsets, as well as Motorola, the competition between Android handsets will be hotting up next year for sure.
