Mobiado has added two new handsets to their portfolio – the Professional 105 EM, and the Professional 105 GCB. Like their last two handsets, these two are made from a number of different materials - hardwood, aluminium, sapphire crystal, and 24-karat gold, for the 105 EM, and the 105 GCB is decked out in 24 Karat gold, the buttons are comprised of sapphire crystal, and hand-painted in 24 karat gold. The 105 EM will ship in a choice of two colours - Cocobolo and Ebony.

The rear of both handsets are comprised of large pieces of sapphire crystal, and employ a unique sliding battery mechanism. Both devices sport quad-band GSM connectivity, so you can use them almost anywhere in the world. No word on pricing or availability as of yet.

Author: Serge Novikov   Source: Laptopmag blog     Translation by: Administrator    Send news to friend  Discuss in forum

A video has been released, demonstrating Garmin's Nuvifone UI. It bears similar finger gestures to the iPhone's UI, and offers automatic screen rotation. You can also see a fairly adequate sized virtual keyboard, used for text input, in both when on the Internet, and when sending a text message. Predictive text is also present, as you'd expect. The nuvifone will be released sometime in the fourth quarter.

Consumer interest for 3G iPhone in the UK up from the original    [ 19-06-2008 13:58 ]

Author: Serge Novikov   Source: Unwiredview     Translation by: Administrator    Send news to friend  Discuss in forum

Interest for Apple's upcoming 3G iPhone has increased four times as much as the original model, for UK operator O2 at least. The number of people who have registered their interest in the device has topped 130,000, up from 35,000 on the now discontinued original iPhone, in a two month span of September through November last year. That was over a span of two months, yet the 3G iPhone gets 130,000 pre-registers in one week, perhaps down to the price-slash, and most-requested features in 3G and GPS. Added to that the increased availability of the 3G iPhone, and the option of buying it without a contract in the UK, making it a viable option for almost any consumer.

In-depth demo of Google's upcoming Android OS    [ 19-06-2008 13:38 ]

Author: Serge Novikov   Source: CNET     Translation by: Administrator    Send news to friend  Discuss in forum

Google's open-source Android OS, set to be implemented in certain phones later in the year has got a new demonstration, thanks to Andy Rubin, Google's Senior Director of Mobile Platforms. In the demo, he shows a non-touchscreen iteration of Android. Also multitasking on Android was showcased – a key feature – a competitor to Android, Apple's iPhone OS can not natively multi task. The Android OS doesn't seem to be too memory-intensive of an OS, seeing how it can run on a 200MHz, whether it runs at an acceptable speed remains to be seen. As expected, there are quite a number of Google-specific applications pre-installed in the Android OS – twenty to be precise, including Gmail – for email obviously, Google's popular maps application, and, as is all the rage these days, a Youtube application, to search and view for videos on Youtube. Memory should not be an issue with several applications open, as the Android OS puts all background into freeze dry mode, minimising system resources, and conserving battery life.

New device patent from Microsoft called intimidating    [ 19-06-2008 08:46 ]

Author: Irina Turina   Source: Engadgetmobile     Translation by: Administrator    Send news to friend  Discuss in forum

Microsoft has shown off a new patent. As you can see from the image below, it's a mobile device, with a slide-out keyboard, as well as a numeric keypad. What is different about this is that the device's screen flips upwards. It seems that Microsoft has positioned everything where it should be, providing easy access, and no need to delve into various menus to get where you want to. According to the application, "in device mode, the computing system truly assumes the look and feel of a less intimidating multi-media device, rather than that of a sometimes more intimidating computer."

It's a nice idea to focus on ease-of-use, but it's doubtful many people would be comfortable using it, given the size of it.
