Motorola splits network unit into three    [ 30-07-2008 23:56 ]

Motorola's Network unit is changing – the company is changing the unit in to three separate businesses, in order to expand the company's growth potential. The three units, or businesses, are: Broadband home solutions, Broadband business solutions, and, finally, cellular networks. Motorola's Network unit had a revenue in the region of $2.4 billion, and with this new three-way divide, they look to capitalise on that even further. Before the merger, remember, back in March, Motorola announced that its ailing handset division would be split off from all other businesses as of next year.

Apple speaks about MobileMe issues    [ 30-07-2008 22:53 ]

Apple are generally a rather secretive company as it were – but, now, they're being very open with the issues of its MobileMe application, which automatically pushes new e-mails, contacts, and calendar events to your Mac, PC, iPhone, and iPod Touch. Apple are discussing the issues it had with the launch of MobileMe, and how the company will remedy the issues. Note that unlike non-paid-for e-mail providors, such as Hotmail, Yahoo, and Gmail, Apple has lost some of its users e-mails – around 1% of MobileMe users have encountered this issue. Some users were not able to log in to their mail accounts, but were able to do so as of the 25th. It is hoped that all e-mail related issues will be resolved sometime in the next few days.

Microsoft sets up another Research and Development centre in Taiwan    [ 30-07-2008 22:26 ]

Microsoft has previously set up two R&D centres in Taiwan – in 2003, and another one earlier on in the year. Now, they look to expand on this, with another one (their sixteenth in total) – a Hardware Innovation Centre, says their R&D leader of China, Ya-qin Zhang. Much of the hardware inside your average computer is manufactured in Taiwan, and Taiwan-based manufactures, such as Acer, and Asus have showed interest in the HIP – with its purpose being that it will bring together Microsoft's advanced software technologies, with the hardware manufacturing capabilities, of Taiwan-based companies.
