Nokia acquires Trolltech    [ 28-01-2008 23:05 ]

Author: Irina Turina     Translation by:    Send news to friend  Discuss in forum

Nokia has announced its acquisition of Trolltech, a Norwegian software developer. As it's been reported, Nokia will get Trolltech's major assets and offer its staff to keep their current work places. This deal will allow the Finnish phone maker to accelerate the cross-platform software strategy for mobile devices and desktop applications, and develop its Internet services business. Moreover, having Trolltech under its wing will further increase the competitiveness of S60 and Series 40, but they are not going to dump current Trolltech's solutions or cease support of its clients at the same time, as they plan to license Trolltech technology under both commercial and open source licenses. The deal, however, is still being processed but is expected to be cemented in the second quarter of 2008.
