Treo 500 not from Vodafone only    [ 25-01-2008 22:33 ]

Author: Irina Turina   Source: Reghardware     Translation by: Rytchkova Anja    Send news to friend  Discuss in forum

Palm’s European unit announced the release of an “unlocked” Treo 500 smartphone. Thus you can get the device now not only from Vodafone operator. I’d remind you that the Treo 500 smartphone is powered by Windows Mobile 6 Standard and works in GSM/GPRS and UMTS networks. This is a candy bar equipped with a QWERTY-keyboard, a 320x240 pixel display, a 2-megapixel camera, a microSD slot and Bluetooth 2.0+EDR. Last September the device became available from Vodafone. And now the European sales of the “unlocked” Treo 500 start on January 28. In the UK it will be available for 269 pound sterling (i.e. 532 dollars).

New technologies in Philips Digital Photo Frame    [ 25-01-2008 16:38 ]

Author: Klimov Oleg     Translation by: Rytchkova Anja    Send news to friend  Discuss in forum

Philips has extended its Digital PhotoFrame lineup with 6”, 7” and 8” models. The company applied most recent technologies, which improve image color and contrast and ensure excellent quality of demonstrating any images.

The new models involve its brand new technology Philips RadiantColor. It stretches the image colors to the edge of the frame, so you get rid of black stripes and format distortion and enjoy your pictures.

In addition new Philips Digital PhotoFrame feature improved collage effect, which debuted in Philips Digital PhotoFrame 2007 series. The Collage Effect is very simple in use, it displays multiple photos at once.

With two slots for storage cards and a USB connector it got easier to download and exchange of photos. The intuitively clear screen menu allows operating photos by a single touch.

SmartPower technology minimizes power consumption and sets the screen for work in a definite time scale (day or working) to spare energy.

Over a billion handsets shipped in 2007, says ABI Research    [ 25-01-2008 15:45 ]

Author: Irina Turina   Source: ABI Research     Translation by:    Send news to friend  Discuss in forum

ABI Research has investigated the current state of the mobile phone market in Q4 2007. As the experts claim, the shocks trembling the US economy  haven't had any severe affect on this segment. Most handset suppliers, except for Motorola, have increased their sales volumes and revenues. The fourth quarter wound up at 342 million phones sold, taking the yearly sales to the 1,15 billion mark, which is 15,8% better than in 2006. As the analysts predict, 2008 will see a 12% increase on 2007 sales-wise, although previously the growth forecast was 13,5%, however the experts of ABI Research have reduced this figure.

As ABI Research says, Motorola was the only vendor not to enjoy the fruits of 2007. By its own admission, Motorola’s market share shrank from 23.3% to 12.4%. Other players, Nokia, Sony Ericsson, Samsung and LG were net beneficiaries. Curiously, ABI Research calls North America and to a lesser extent South America "the chink in Nokia's armor". Indeed, this maker can't boast a solid presence on these markets, since it is bound to comply with carriers' requirements, such as customization, exclusive sales periods, and personalization to appeal to their customers.

EazzzY: tiny USB camera    [ 25-01-2008 12:22 ]

Author: Irina Turina   Source: Yankodesign     Translation by: Rytchkova Anja    Send news to friend  Discuss in forum

Sungwoo Park has created an original USB called EazzzY. The device indeed features a flash drive size and nothing unnecessary. Packed in a tiny shell it has no room for a viewfinder, a display or buttons except for the main one, the camera button. However this compact solution outpaces all current models and supports direct PC connection via USB. However there are some doubts that such device will ever come to the market and be in demand.
