Socket Mobile has reported it will soon release its SoMo650 handheld built with an antibacterial plastic. The original SoMo 650 was released last spring. Designed for business users this semi-rugged Pocket PC can stand a fall from one meter’s height to concrete. It features Intel PXA270 (624 MHz) processor, Windows Mobile 5.0, 3.5” QVGA display, Wi-Fi 802.11b/g and Bluetooth 2.0+EDR, 128 MB RAM and 256 MB ROM.
The updated SoMo 650 with antibacterial coating is targeted toward healthcare and labs that involve hygiene-sensitive environments. The company believes that the antibacterial product will provide an additional layer of protection against the multiplication and spread of potentially harmful bacteria and microbes. The new handheld will hit the stores early in 3Q 08.

By the end of 2007, sales of mobile phones increased to the 1.15 billion mark, which is an increase of the 990.9 million handsets sold in 2006, which is a 16% increase, according to Gartner Inc.
Nokia managed to snatch 40% marketshare in Q4 2007. This was achieved, by Nokia selling just over 133 million phones across the world. Samsung remained a steady second with 13.4% of the market in Q4 2007 with a range of different handsets for different markets. In Europe, at least, part of Samsung's success has to be attributed to the Ultra series of phones, as well as their G600, and, to some extent, the G800. Motorola was gradually losing marketshare - they recorded sales of 39 million phones world-wide, thus, claiming 11.9% marketshare. However, Motorola once again retained second place, in terms of yearly sales.
Sony Ericcson performed steadily throughout 2007 – its marketshare grew to 9% in Q4 2007, up from 8.7% the previous year. Its Walkman line of handsets remained a hit with many teenagers, the same could be said for the Cybershot brand too, but this applies more to mobile photographers.

This is hoped to bring about new, exiting, stylish products for not only the Latin American, but also global markets.
Within the next two years, the studio will be involved in various projects – mainly research-orientated, exploring new influences across the whole of Brazil – cultural, social, and design. Qumo Q-Touch player is peculiar for touch interface – the device lacks buttons, but you can operate it via its 3.2” TFT 262K color touchscreen display. Ergonomic menu and touchscreen enable quick access to any player function. Qumo Q-Touch lets you reading e-books and listening to the music at the same time. Now you don’t have to search for the spot you’d stopped the playback – Q-Touch will remember it for you and resume the playback next time.
The player carries 2 and 4 GB of RAM onboard, however you can extend its memory with a microSD card and use both internal and external memory at once. We expect the new device in stores in April 2008.
The short specs of Qumo Q-Touch:
