Author: Irina Turina     Translation by: Rytchkova Anja    Send news to friend  Discuss in forum

O2 operator has confirmed the info that it will become Apple’s partner and get exclusive right to sell the iPhone in Ireland. The phone arrives to Ireland on March 14 and will be available through O2 sale networks and Carphone Warehouse, like it is now in the UK. The iPhone 8GB will be priced at €399 (some $600) and the 16GB version - €499 (about $750).

The iPhone in Ireland will be offered with 3 service plans at €45 per month, all of them including some talk minutes, text messages and 1GB of data package. I’d remind you that Apple has teamed up with the following operators to sell the iPhone – AT&T in the US, O2 in the UK, T-Mobile in Germany and Orange in France.

Worldwide mobile phone handset sales up by 16%, in 2007    [ 28-02-2008 08:00 ]

Author: Irina Turina   Source: Cellular News     Translation by: Administrator    Send news to friend  Discuss in forum

By the end of 2007, sales of mobile phones increased to the 1.15 billion mark, which is an increase of the 990.9 million handsets sold in 2006, which is a 16% increase, according to Gartner Inc.

Nokia managed to snatch 40% marketshare in Q4 2007. This was achieved, by Nokia selling just over 133 million phones across the world. Samsung remained a steady second with 13.4% of the market in Q4 2007 with a range of different handsets for different markets. In Europe, at least, part of Samsung's success has to be attributed to the Ultra series of phones, as well as their G600, and, to some extent, the G800. Motorola was gradually losing marketshare - they recorded sales of 39 million phones world-wide, thus, claiming 11.9% marketshare. However, Motorola once again retained second place, in terms of yearly sales.

Sony Ericcson performed steadily throughout 2007 – its marketshare grew to 9% in Q4 2007, up from 8.7% the previous year. Its Walkman line of handsets remained a hit with many teenagers, the same could be said for the Cybershot brand too, but this applies more to mobile photographers.
