Samsung patents 3D hologrphic display    [ 22-02-2008 17:07 ]

Author: Klimov Oleg   Source: Unwiredview     Translation by: Administrator    Send news to friend  Discuss in forum

Samsung has showed off a new patent, showing an ordinary mobile phone, with a projection display, and possibly a 3D holographic screen. You may ask what the point of this is – the reasoning is simple enough. It's well known that the LCDs used in phones are quite thick, and, due to different production techniques,  horizontal and vertical sizes of displays have gradually standardised, whih limits the different design types of phone quite a bit.

Whilst this is only a patent, optical projectors are now small enough to fit in phones, so it could come into th market, at some point. One thing that is missing, currently, is a refractive plate, which basically evenly spreads out incoming light waves, which picks up projected light, and turning it into an image on the phones display.

But, again, nothing is unconfirmed as of yet, but, with the issues Motorola has been having recently, this wouldn't come as a surprise to many.

Sony Ericsson patent for projector phones    [ 22-02-2008 10:23 ]

Author: Irina Turina   Source: Cellpassion     Translation by: Rytchkova Anja    Send news to friend  Discuss in forum

Sony Ericsson has filed a patent application for projector technology inside mobile phones. According to the application, when the projector beams the desired image on to a surface, the onboard camera will take an image of the projected image to analyze if any adjustments are to be made. Thus you can change the intensity of the projector to get the perfect image. The developments are currently under the process and there are several mobile phone samples with the inbuilt projector. Probably this technology will sometime be as customary as built-in cameras today.

Fashion-savvy Edge concept phone    [ 22-02-2008 09:46 ]

Author: Irina Turina   Source: Yankodesign     Translation by: Administrator    Send news to friend  Discuss in forum

The concept phone below, entitled Edge, designed by Chris Owens, which seems to be aimed at the fashion-conscious consumer. The keypad is made of glass, and draws back in, when the handset is idle. The screen is touch-sensitive – this is becoming quite popular it would seem, plus it occupies nearly the entire real estate of the front fascia. The handset has a very glossy look to it, which isn't to everyone's taste. Obviously, as with most phones these days, there's a camera on the back.
