New idea of Samsung gaming phone    [ 20-02-2008 19:25 ]

Author: Irina Turina   Source: Unwiredview     Translation by: Rytchkova Anja    Send news to friend  Discuss in forum

We’ve recently seen some tries to create a dedicated gaming phone- for example, Nokia N-Gage gaming smartphone, which turned to be a failure. There were also several possible gaming phone designs and R&D concepts. This time Samsung filed a patent application for its next gaming phone.

Looking like an ordinary clamshell, it has definite changes in design - its inner display swings away to landscape mode and reveals another keypad with game controls underneath. The developers left some space for an additional speaker, allowing better sound effects. However this form doesn’t provide any opportunity for a compact and slim housing. It’s not yet clear whether Samsung and other vendors would implement the idea in new products soon.

Hewlett-Packard (HP) is rumored to prepare its ultra mobile PC. The China-based Commercial Times says that the Taiwanese company Inventec will be manufacturing the product. Reportedly, the new UMPC belongs to a high-end class (however the company hinted earlier at an inexpensive solution) and designed for business users. The HP UMPC is based on a 45nm Intel Penryn processor and equipped with a 8.9” display. Unofficial sources suggest that the new UMPC will be released in April-May 08 listed for some $630.

Nokia N830 Internet Tablet PC for WiMax?    [ 20-02-2008 10:53 ]

Author: Irina Turina   Source: Tablet-Guru     Translation by: Rytchkova Anja    Send news to friend  Discuss in forum

Some web-source has posted an interesting image of Nokia devices in the February edition of a big US retailer company. Nokia N830 Internet Tablet being one of them.

The design of the N830 resembles that of the N810 with a slide-out QWERTY-keyboard, but in black colored housing. The device might support WiMax networks, remember that last fall Nokia reported its plans to launch N-series Internet Tablet with WiMax. They will work under 4G Sprint Xohm network, currently tested for the commercial launch in the US. Nokia N830 might be officially announced at CTIA Wireless in April.
