Sony Ericsson's W910 Walkman phone, which is designed for entertainment, such as music – with its Walkman player, or 3D games, on the 2.4” screen, was voted handset of the year, by the GSM Association. Added to its feature set, are two interesting things: Shake Control, which allows users to flick the phone, allowing the unique control of games, and switching between music tracks, in a way never done before, as well as SenseMe, which lets users select music to suit their mood. This Walkman handset was under stiff competition from the likes of Samsung's G600, LG's Viewty, and Nokia's 6500 Slide.
The judges said that they chose Sony Ericsson's W910, because (it is) "… a superb all-rounder. A compelling, easy to use design that has captured the imagination of consumers around the world in 2007." The Walkman line of handsets, starting with the W800 in August 2005, were once cutting-edge handsets, but, in recent months, have faced stiff competition from the likes of Nokias Xpress Music, Samsung's F, and U-Series, as well as Motorola's ROKR line of phones. Check out our comprehensive review of the W910 here.

Palm’s online store in Europe will soon start sales of a Palm Centro smartphone for GSM networks. Currently the device is available for preorder, however the company does not specify the delivery date. As for the price tag, it will make up ₤199 or €299. The CDMA Centro popped up in the US through Sprint operator last fall, and turned to be the lightest and most compact Palm’s smartphone.
Palm Centro has kept the same specs for Europe except for the cell standard:

Another thing of interest regarding Google, aside from its Android OS, has come from Barcelona, where the MWC is taking place. It was announced, by Nokia, and Google, that Google's search engine will be integrated into Nokia's search application. It will start in selected markets, and will be available on the Nokia N96, Nokia N78, Nokia 6210 Navigator and Nokia 6220 classic, however, it will extend to other regions and handsets, over time. Users will be able to search the web from the main menu, without fumbling through several menus.
This collaboration builds on previous cooperation between Nokia and Google. Google search has previously been available on Nokia Internet tablets, and last year the Nokia N95 8GB became the first mobile device to fully support YouTube, the video-sharing platform owned by Google.

Hot off the heels of Microsoft trying to acquire Internet giant Yahoo, they have successfully acquired Danger, the maker of the Sidekick line of phones. It is thought the deal is worth in the region of $500 million. Now that all papers are signed and hands shaken, the question is, what will Microsoft do with the Danger OS now?
It seems that Microsoft is looking to foray into the market of cheaper, more consumer-friendly devices for messaging and Internet, which Sidekicks were – all in all, this should prove to be a valuable purchase for Microsoft’s wellbeing in the long run. Of course, at this time, this is pure speculation, as currently, nothing is known in regards to what Microsoft will do with Danger's OS and experience.

Samsung Electronics has made a loud announcement at the Mobile World Congress in Barcelona. Geesung Choi, president of Samsung’s telecoms business, told the company expected “to grow the business faster than the market to over 200 million units in 2008”. Last year Samsung outpaced Motorola and became the world’s number two phone vendor.
The company selected 6 phone categories for every type of customer: basic functionality, connectivity, multimedia, infotainment, style and business. Samsung plans to extend its portfolio with new models for each category. Remember the company has recently unveiled the Soul handset (short for “the Spirit of Ultra”) at the Mobile World Congress, the device being meant for users looking for stylish design and advanced functionality.
