The second handset, from Sony Ericsson, running on the Windows Mobile platform, will see the light of day, late next year, at the very earliest. As is known, the device won't be made by HTC, who made the first WM-powered Sony Ericsson device - the X1. Sony Ericsson are said to be in talks with three different companies, for the task of making their next WM-powered smartphone, they are: Mobinnova, FIH and Pegatron Technology. Talks will probably be finalised by Q1 of next year, then, work will immediately begin on the device. The launch of the device should occur late next year, at the very earliest.

Sales of Android-powered G1 putting a dent in Windows Mobile-powered smartphones, says HTC executive    [ 26-12-2008 14:59 ]

Author: Irina Turina     Translation by: Administrator    Send news to friend  Discuss in forum

An unidentified HTC executive claims that sales of the company's Android-powered G1 handset, is putting a dent in sales of the company's own Windows Mobile-powered devices. It's not clear, as of yet, by how much the G1 is outselling HTC Windows Mobile-powered devices, such as the Touch HD.

Though, it wouldn't really be surprising. Possibly HTC Windows Mobile users were growing tired of more of the same, and wante to try other OSes, which is what the G1 allows them to do.

Apple files gesture-based text editing patent    [ 26-12-2008 14:38 ]

Author: Irina Turina   Source: engadget mobile     Translation by: Administrator    Send news to friend  Discuss in forum

Apple have filed a patent, which is called Swipe Gestures for Touch Screen Keyboards. The patent shows the use of swipe gestures, to give users quick ways to accomplish something. This is achieved, by, as you can see below, swiping you fingers. For instance, swiping your finger to your right would accomplish a backspace, and, to your right, a push of the spacebar would occur.

Swiping downward would accomplish an Enter/Return gesture, and so on. Not only is swiping via one finger on the cards, but, multitouch - two, and even three fingers is, as well, to allow for even more gestures. Should this become a reality, it would make texting on the iPhone more intuitive.
