Panasonic set to embed plasma screens in mobile phones    [ 03-04-2008 17:09 ]

Author: Serge Novikov   Source: AbleComm, Inc.     Translation by: Administrator    Send news to friend  Discuss in forum

Today, Panasonic unveiled plans to put plasma displays in mobile phones, in place of the traditional LCDs. They are to be used, presumably, exclusively with US network operator AT&T, with their recently announced Mobile TV service. AT&T's Mobile TV service offers feature-length TV content from top US channels, which is due to launch sometime next month.

Mark Balsama, national marketing manager for Panasonic had this to day at the press event: "For nearly a decade, Panasonic's engineers have been secretly working on a thin, lightweight low-voltage compact plasma display ... We will be able to incorporate miniature plasma displays into both consumer and business telephone products starting this fall. They will rival OLED displays for brightness, contrast and thinness, and can be manufactured for much less money."

Krusell measures handset popularity with carrying cases    [ 03-04-2008 11:13 ]

Author: Irina Turina   Source: http://www.cellular-news.com     Translation by: Rytchkova Anja    Send news to friend  Discuss in forum

Krusell, the maker of carrying cases for portable electronics, has released its traditional Top 10 of most popular cellphones. The list is based on carrying case sales over the month (see the previous position in brackets).

Top 10 in March:

1. (2) Nokia 3109/3110
2. (1) Nokia 6300
3. (4) Nokia E51
4. (3) Sony Ericsson K810i
5. (5) Sony Ericsson K850i
6. (-) Nokia 5310
7. (-) Sony Ericsson W890i
8. (6) Nokia N95 8GB
9. (9) Nokia N95
10. (8) Sony Ericsson K530i

Krusell highlights the continuous fight between a pair of Scandinavian vendors: the rating comprises models by Nokia and Sony Ericsson only. By the way, 6 of 10 positions are occupied by the Finnish giant. LG KU990 was close to entering the Top 10, but it reached only the 11th place and failed to diversify the list.
