Microsoft shows updated Windows Mobile 6 behind closed doors    [ 29-11-2007 16:25 ]

Author: Irina Turina   Source: Engadget     Translation by: Rytchkova Anja    Send news to friend  Discuss in forum

Microsoft held a closed demonstration of the next version of Windows Mobile 6 at the annual Mobius 2007 conference. The company showed an update of the current platform, not an upgrade (Windows Mobile 7 – Photon). It is running on the current hardware. However many have the impression the new version has nothing revolutionary, most features are somewhat belated.

The manufacturers will have WM 6 update in 1Q 2008. The company hasn’t provided any details on the new opportunities. Probably we’ll hear about it at CES 2008 in January.

Author: Irina Turina   Source: Gizmos     Translation by: Rytchkova Anja    Send news to friend  Discuss in forum

Internet sources report that Motorola expects to release a new series of multimedia pones called ZiNE in 2008. The info leaked from Motorola presentation in Spain. The company introduced Motorola V8, Motorola V8 Luxury and Motorola V9.

There is a confirmation of two Motorola ZiNE devices. The first one is an heir of Motorola Z10, equipped with a touchscreen it has bigger size. It kept the kick-slider form and features Wi-Fi and GPS. The second ZiNE phone seems to be more a phone-enabled camera featuring a 8-megapixel camera with optical zoom (the cooperation with Kodak).

During the show in Spain Motorola confirmed it had not plans to release (at least next year) an iPhone-style phone, i.e. with full touch control and without the hardware keyboard.

Unlocked and cheaper iPhone in France    [ 29-11-2007 11:58 ]

Author: Irina Turina   Source: Francetelecom     Translation by: Rytchkova Anja    Send news to friend  Discuss in forum

As it was expected the iPhone has debuted in France available from Orange operator. Without the contract it costs €749 - €6490 is the price for the phone and €100 for unlocking services. I’d remind you that T-Mobile started sales of an unlocked iPhone in Germany a week ago, however the operator offered it for €999.

At the same time Orange subscribers can buy the iPhone traditionally with a 2-year service plan. In this case the phone will go for €399 and monthly fee will vary from €49 to €119 depending on the service plan. The iPhone is available at Orange stores and online. Currently the site has over 63000 orders.
