Motorola acquires Modulus Video    [ 17-05-2007 17:10 ]

Today Motorola signed an acquisition agreement with Modulus Video, which is privately held. The companies didn’t disclose financial terms of the agreement.

Modulus Video is a provider of next-generation HD and SD video compression solutions for digital television based on the MPEG-4 AVC (Advanced Video Coding) (H.264 / MPEG-4.10) standard delivered via satellite, cable, terrestrial, or IPTV, and enterprise networks. Till this moment Modulus Video has partnered with Motorola for over two years on encoding capabilities.

The deal will extend the list of recently acquired companies by Motorola (Broadbus, Kreatel, Tut Systems, Netopia) to create and supply integrated systems delivering video to various network architectures.

ASUS devices to get WM 6 upgrade in July    [ 17-05-2007 14:15 ]

ASUSTeK Computer has officially announced that the users of A639/A626/A686/A696 and P535/P735 will have an opportunity to run the OS upgrade on their PDA and communicators to the latest WM 6. The upgrade will be available in July and is said to be free. The company hasn’t provided details on the OS upgrade for the rest products so far.

We’ve already mentioned Nokia 8600 handset under the codename Luna. Now we have live pics of it, besides the phone is said to pass the scrutiny of the FCC. This time a member of our English forum posted a supposedly official photo of Nokia 8600 and some features: GPRS/EDGE, 2-megapixel camera, Bluetooth interface. According to the earlier info Nokia 8600 has a QVGA 16M color display and powered by Series 40 platform. The vendor didn’t share official details.

Samsung Electronics has announced the release of the SPH-M510 and SPH-M300 phones at Sprint operator. Both devices are packed in a clamshell form-factor. Samsung SPH-M510 is equipped with a 1.3-megapixel camera, an integrated GPS-receiver, an expansion slot for microSD cards and Bluetooth. Its main display has a 2.1’ diagonal, 176x220 pixels, the secondary display – 0.76” 96x96. Dimensions are 95x50.8x16.2 mm. the M510 supports Sprint TV and Sprint Music Store services. The phone costs $129.99 on a 2-year service plan. It will be available in Black Rose and Black Blue color solutions.

Samsung SPH-M300 features a 128x160 pixels main display, 96x96x65K color external display, a VGA camera and Bluetooth interface, 91x47x17.2 mm. The model comes in Silver and Red shells. The price tag for the SPH-M300 makes up $29.99 on a 2-year service plan.
