Author: Klimov Oleg     Translation by: Rytchkova Anja    Send news to friend  Discuss in forum

The last Motorola model for today is another RAZR-clamshell phone. It doesn’t differ much from its junior model (W380), but looks more serious.

Motorola W395 is 18 mm thick, equipped with two displays. It carries 5 MB of memory onboard expandable with microSD cards (up to 2 GB). The phone supports Bluetooth, MP3/AAC playback and a 2.5-mm headphones jack. It will come out in 3Q 2007.

Motorola W380 – a budget RAZR-style clamshell    [ 27-03-2007 17:18 ]

Author: Klimov Oleg     Translation by: Rytchkova Anja    Send news to friend  Discuss in forum

Motorola is developing the success of its slim RAZR-phones with a new phone in the same style – the W380. The new phone doesn’t impress with outstanding specs, this is just a classical slim handset in the folding shell.

Like previous models the W380 is equipped with an FM-radio with the possibility to enjoy music via both the headset and the speakers. Its external monochrome screen is good as an auxiliary one, for example, it can display stylized analog watch.

There is a VGA-camera with 4x digital zoom and a 2.5-mm headphones jack. The W380 can play MP3 and AAC tracks. The phone can last for 250-500 minutes in talk mode and 150-200 hours standby. The availability date is set for 3Q 2007.

DLP Projection Technology On Your Mobile Phone    [ 27-03-2007 15:15 ]

Author: Klimov Oleg     Translation by: Saliquincer    Send news to friend  Discuss in forum

Texas Instruments (TI)  during the 2007 CTIA Wireless convention will be demonstrating, a prototype of a DLP pico-projector small enough to fit on your finger tips.

The latest DLP innovation from the world leader in mobile projection solutions enables compelling viewing options that expand beyond the limitations of a physical screen for mobile users of cellular phones, digital cameras and portable media players.

DLP pico-projectors, either as standalone projector or as an integrated component in mobile devices, will provide consumers and business professionals with the flexibility to share video and graphic content in a larger way.

The DLP pico-prototype further advances TI’s mobile projection technology, building on the 2006 introduction of DLP-based pocket projectors. These products are in the market today from manufacturers, including Mitsubishi, Samsung, and Toshiba.  Pacific Media Associates (PMA), a global research firm, expects this pocket projector category to grow to more than 1M units by 2010. TI demonstrated the viewing experience advantage of showing mobile phone content on a pocket projector in January 2007. The introduction of the pico-projector capabilities will provide manufacturers and end-users even more options on how they can view and share information and content.

As the leader in home theatre and business projection, TI DLP Products continues to develop new and exciting ways that our manufacturing customers can apply DLP technology in innovative consumer products,” said Frank J. Moizio, Worldwide Strategic Marketing and Business Development Manager, TI DLP Front Projection. “Over the next few years, we envision a large opportunity for the convergence of projection technology and mobile devices, like cell phones,” Moizio added.

Key benefits of DLP projectors include: smoother images with no “screen door” effect; crisp and clear presentation of fast motion video; vibrant colours created by its BrilliantColor technology; and proven reliability across all facets – picture reliability over time (no fading, yellowing or colour decay over time as compared to other display technologies), overall performance and dust-resistance.

Author: Serge Novikov     Translation by: Rytchkova Anja    Send news to friend  Discuss in forum

Samsung Electronics announced today its LCD panel made under TFT technology. It features a 240x320 pixel resolution, a 2.1” diagonal and built-in light sensors, which enable screen brightness adjustment to current light conditions.

According to the manufacturer, the display is meant for top cellphones, PDA and compact media players in the first place. Besides the new product is equipped with a thermo compensation sensor built in the control chip, it should be on guard for steady work depending on the temperature changes. Another advantage of the model is lower power consumption – by 20-30% less against the samples with similar size and resolution.

The production start of the LCD panels is scheduled for the second half of 2007.

Samsung with the world's smallest 8,4 Mpix CMOS sensor    [ 27-03-2007 13:48 ]

Author: Serge Novikov     Translation by: Oleg Kononosov    Send news to friend  Discuss in forum

Samsung Electronics today announced that it had finished development of its very own 8,4 Mpix CMOS photo-sensor, which, as the company claims, has what it takes to be called the world's smallest unit.

Samsung also says that its CMOS units enable taking shots of the same quality as CCD sensors, but at that are much less power-hungry. This advantage, as they ensured us in the same announcement, will provoke a rapid shift to the new sensors in all previously CCD-powered products - cell phones, digital cameras and camcoders.

HTC to release a real UMPC    [ 27-03-2007 07:47 ]

Author: Verà Kozlova     Translation by: Oleg Kononosov    Send news to friend  Discuss in forum

High Tech Computer at recently-commenced exhibition CTIA WIRELESS 2007 announced something we haven't seen much of from this company - HTC Shift, which is not a Windows Mobile-based device, but a UMPC powered by Windows Vista.

Form-factor wise HTC Shift is quite out of the ordinary, though the same can be said about its feature set. Much like sliding communicators, its display flicks open, revealing the keyboard, though unlike those, here the display can be set at an angle to the keyboard.

The Shift comes equipped with a 7-inch widescreen display and 30 Gb hard drive, as well as UMTS/HSDPA and GSM/GPRS/EDGE connectivity, Wi-Fi and Bluetooth 2. The device is due out in Q3 of 2007 in both Europe and the US.

Comprehensive spec sheet of HTC Shift is yet to be announced, though unofficial sources say that it is powered by VIA's CPU running at 1,2 GHz.
