Google Working On Mobile Software, Not Phone    [ 23-03-2007 15:54 ]

Author: Serge Novikov     Translation by: Saliquincer    Send news to friend  Discuss in forum

Boston (eCanadaNow) - Rumors have come out in regards to a Google mobile phone in development but this may be put to rest as it is now thought that Google is working only on mobile software.

Google is currently working very hard to build software for mobile phones to make them more effective and use their software and search engine. This would be far more effective than trying to build a mobile phone of their own as they could just create fantastic universal software for all phones.

The new software will likely be a part of web search software on mobile phones as well as GPS-type software.

It is likely that this software will also function on the Apple iPhone set to release in June meaning that Google could actually be teaming up with Apple in their efforts to launch a mobile phone. Only time will tell but it seems that the Google Phone rumors can be put to rest.

Side-slider with two keypads from Nokia    [ 23-03-2007 09:08 ]

Author: Verà Kozlova   Source: Unwired View     Translation by: Oleg Kononosov    Send news to friend  Discuss in forum

The smartphone we've been dreaming of, Nokia N99, was featured in our news posts a couple of times before. But while back then information on it was merely  rumors, or the users' wish-lists, now it is getting to look like something like the device illustrated below might become a real addition to the Finnish giant's portfolio.

As one of Nokia's latest patent applications revealed, the company is working on a slider-style device armed with both QWERTY and numeric keypads. In portrait mode it seems to be a conventional monoblock with a number pad beneath the display.

However the screen can be slid open, which will expose the thumbboard, so that when switching to the landscape orientation, the numeric pad also rotates, allowing for a convenient way of typing both letters and numbers. Even though Nokia might not be presenting us with a shining dream in the form of the N99, it surely has everything what it takes to surprise its followers with an offbeat solution.
