The German WiMAX operator Deutsche Breitband Dienste (DBD) has launched WiMAX services in Magdeburg and Dessau. The services under Maxxonair mark are the part of WiMAX deployment plans throughout Germany.

The subscribers are to choose between two tariff plans. The first one costs €9.99 per month offering 1 Mbit/s connection speed and 1 GB monthly traffic. The second plan has unlimited traffic, the speed increased to 2 Mbit/s for €19.98 monthly fee. Besides the subscribers are charged with €69.9 for the equipment and installation.

DBD got additional national licenses for WiMAX in December 2006 and already launched the services in Berlin, Leipzig and Dresden.

Socket Communications acting now as Socket Mobile has announced the release of its first handheld PC SoMo 650. This is a highly productive model meant for business use. The model is aimed at the segment between consumer PDA and industry models to be used in tough conditions, the company says. SoMo 650 is positioned as a slim but solid device. It can endure several falls from 1-meter height on a concrete floor. The PDA is powered by Windows Mobile 5.0 OS.

The specs of SoMo 650:

  • Display - 3.5” QVGA (240x320 pixels), 65K colors
  • CPU - Intel PXA270 624 MHz
  • 128 MB RAM and 256 MB flash ROM
  • Slot for CompactFlash and SDIO cards
  • Wi-Fi (802.11 b/g) and Bluetooth 2.0 EDR
  • USB 1.1 client/host
  • Dimensions – 127x74.6x20.6 mm
  • Weight – 178.6 g (with the standard battery and stylus)
  • Li-Ion 1200 mAh battery

The recommended price for SoMo 650 makes up $648. The PDA will be distributed in the US, several Asia-Pacific countries and Europe. Limited edition shipments will be started in April, and mass sales will be launched in May.

Yahoo! and HTC have announced the agreement, under which Yahoo! services will run on HTC devices. Yahoo! services, including Yahoo! Go for Mobile 2.0 and Yahoo!
